VernissageTV Art TV turns 5

VernissageTV – The Internet's unique TV art project – celebrates its 5th anniversary with a series of screenings and a remastering / reediting program.

Basel, October 26, 2010. VernissageTV, the Internet TV art project was founded in fall 2005 by a collective of artists, journalists and art lovers with the aim of providing an alternative to the traditional art coverage on TV. VernissageTV covers exhibitions and events in the fields of contemporary art, design and architecture with the objective to give an authentic insight into the world of art. VernissageTV broadcasts two series: "No Comment" and "Interviews".

VernissageTV started its program with the coverage of Zaha Hadid's exhibition at the Swiss Architecture Museum in VernissageTV's home base Basel in Switzerland. Since then, VernissageTV has been opening a window to the art world almost every day by covering exhibitions, events and projects in both the major art capitals such as New York, Berlin, London, Paris and Los Angeles, and rather hidden places such as remote valleys in the Alps.

Since its inception, VernissageTV has produced and published more than 1400 videos on its website and via media partners and Internet TV partner channels. The pioneer of Art TV on the Internet records up to 100'000 video views per day, covering exhibitions and events all over the world. VernissageTV's archive is accessible anytime via its website www.vernissage.tv and has become a real treasure trove for art professionals, art lovers and filmmakers looking for unique footage. Exclusive interviews with major protagonists of the art world such as Anish Kapoor, Takashi Murakami, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Ellsworth Kelly, and rare shots of performances by John Bock, Vanessa Beecroft, and Patti Smith are some examples of what waits to be discovered in the archive.

VernissageTV celebrates its birthday with a program that focuses on highlighting the treasures that the archive offers. Because of technical restraints in the early days, VernissageTV edited most of the footage until 2008 in Standard Definition. Thanks to the fact that VernissageTV even then shot most of the footage in High Definition, it's possible now to remaster, reedit and republish the episodes in wide-screen and HD. The Remaster-Reedit program is scheduled to start in January 2011. It will coincide with a series of Screenings at VernissageTV's new studio Triath, designed by GernerGernerPlus Architects.
