JMA Pilani Sanskrit Shlok Competition 2018

Right from its inception in 2004, Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy – JMA which is presently one among the top ranking schools in Pilani has embarked on a rich tradition of celebrating various days of national as well as international significance.

Sanskrit Language has been the most important medium in lending continuity to Indian civilization. In its heyday it was spoken and used in all regions of India. Many languages in India have taken freely from Sanskrit vocabulary and their literature is permeated with the Sanskrit heritage. Sanskrit is perhaps the oldest language in the world to be recorded. Classical Sanskrit which developed from the Vedic held sway from about 500 BC to about 1000 AD.

It is known that in terms of its grammar, phonetics, vocabulary and the Devanagari script, Sanskrit becomes a wonderfully efficient vehicle of communication. Recent empirical studies about the relative suitability of different languages and scripts for use in Computer programming and operation have indicated that Sanskrit in devanagari script was not only the most suitable but also that it perfectly satisfied every requirement.

Sanskrit is undoubtedly the repository of India’s cultural, literary, philosophical and scientific heritage and there can be no quarrel with attempts for its promotion. All over the world, ancient classical languages like Greek and Latin are still being studied even though they happen to be dead languages as they fell in disuse long ago. And so is Sanskrit which is not spoken anywhere in India except one or two villages in Southern India.

Considering the importance of Sanskrit, JMA Pilani which follows the RBSE Syllabus conducts a Sanskrit shloka recitation competition every year for the enrolled students. The students are divided into two groups with Group – I having children from class 5-7 and Group – II having children from Class 8-10. For 2018, the shloka recitation competition was held in the Lecture Theatre of the School on 01 Sep in which students in large numbers enthusiastically participated.

In the first group of Class 5 - 7, Harshit Kothari (7A) bagged the first prize, Divya Verma (6B) second prize while third prize went to Payal Jangir (5A), Nancy Sharma (5B), Tanishk Sharma (7B) and Divyanshi (7B). In the second group of Class 8 – 10, Nishit Jakhodia (8B) and Varsha (9B) bagged the first prize, Arvind Sharma (10A) second prize while third prize went to Divya (8B), Priyanshu (8B), Ritika (9B) and Kushi Saini (9B).

When the JMA Sanskrit Shloka competition 2018 ended, the students who participated and teachers who conducted left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a shining jewel in the crown among the schools at Pilani.
