DETAIL Prize 2018: The winners have been chosen
The international jury of experts have awarded the Detail Prize 2018 to a total of five winners. This year's main prize is awarded jointly to Heatherwick Studio for its Zeitz MOCAA project, the Museum of Contemporary African Art in Cape Town and H Arquitectes for the Civic Centre Cristalleries Planell in Barcelona. Christensen & Co Architects and Rørbæk og Møller Arkitekter have been awarded the Detail inside special prize for the atrium of the Life Science & Bioengineering Building of the Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby. Undurraga Deves Arquitectos are the winners of the Detail structure
special prize for the Chilean Pavilion at EXPO 2015 in Milan, which has found a new use as a cultural centre in Temuco (southern Chile).
The winner of the Detail Readers' Prize, chosen by the readers of Detail via an online vote, goes to RAW/deAbajoGarcia for their project Impluvium, a community centre in Reinosa, Spain.
This year, the DETAIL Prize jury will award two first prizes of equal rank to two projects dedicated to the upgrading and conversion of historical buildings. In doing so, it is recognising a task that is becoming increasingly important in the work of architects. The starting point and chosen strategies are radically different, but the effects in both cases are similar: Long-term vacancies have been overcome and social added-value created. The jury's decision in favour of the two prize winners was unanimous.
For DETAIL Prize 2018, 353 projects of 280 architecture/interior design and engineering planning offices from 36 countries were submitted. The winning projects will be honoured at a public award ceremony on 16 November 2018 in Munich, and presented at BAU 2019, the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, also in Munich. For the eighth time, DETAIL is awarding the international architecture prize, which honours innovative building construction projects, outstanding interior design and constructional highlights.
DETAIL - Review of Architecture and Construction Details
DETAIL was first published in 1961. DETAIL is the international professional journal for architecture and construction details produced by Detail publishers. Each issue of DETAIL is devoted to a specific constructional theme and provides a comprehensive treatment of the subject in the various sections of the journal. The main section is the »Documentation«, containing an analysis of selected projects, in which buildings from around the world are covered in depth. In addition to the aesthetic quality of the architecture, constructional details play a central role. All plan drawings are redrawn in-house true to scale and in consultation with the architects, planners and engineers responsible for the original design. This affords readers ready access to the projects and a swift means of comparison at a uniformly high level.
