CONTENTSERV Web-to-Print Solution Supports Apple iPad-compatible E-Book Standard EPUB
Rohrbach/Ilm March 04, 2010: CONTENTSERV, one of the leading specialists in web-based Enterprise Marketing Management software solutions supports the output of e-books in the open EPUB Standard from its web-to-print solution.Open E-Book Standard
EPUB is the internationally recognized open XML-based standard for e-books, which was adopted in its current version in 2007 by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). As an open and independent standard EPUB is easily accessible for all market actors and can often be developed and implemented further. The standard is currently establishing itself in the market and is already supported by many reading devices.
Compared to the PDF standard, EPUB has the advantage that text output can be adapted dynamically to the respective display size and viewing habits of the reader. This is why it is especially suited for output on mobile devices. The new e-book reader Apple iPad will focus on this standard, so that its users will be able to take advantage of a wide range of e-books currently on the market.
EPUB Output via the CONTENTSERV Web-to-Print Solution
E-books are already a hot topic for publishers. A topic that is bound to become even more important in the future. Alexander Wörl, CTO of CONTENTSERV GmbH comments: „It’s plausible that Apple could succeed in revolutionizing the market for digital print publications with the introduction of the iPad, just as the iPod revolutionized the music industry and the iPhone the telecommunication sector.” He adds: „It’s foreseeable that the EPUB format will soon play a very central role especially for our customers in the publishing industry.”
With its concentration on the EPUB format, whose output is executed via the Adobe® InDesign® server, which is integrated in CONTENTSERV software, CONTENTSERV is altering its course to include this very important standard. CONTENTSERV offers media companies an innovative solution with its extended product interfaces for the future marketing of publications. „In order to support our customers on their way towards the digital publishing age, CONTENTSERV has decided to include the EPUB format in its cross media publishing strategy,” Alexander Wörl confirms this development. This will make it possible for users of the web-to-print solution to output their publications both as print versions or e-books at the push of a button in order to make them available for reading devices.
