SMSC MOST® Network Adopted in MINI Cooper Clubman

SMSC MOST® Network Adopted in MINI Cooper Clubman

SMSC, a leading semiconductor company providing Smart Mixed-Signal Connectivity™ solutions, today announced that its Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST®) networking technology has been selected as part of the infotainment system for the new BMW X1 compact SUV and MINI Cooper Clubman models. MOST is the standard network for the infotainment systems almost across the full range of BMW platforms. With these latest design wins, MOST is now adopted in over 80 vehicle models on the road today.

“We are proud to continue to serve BMW with high bandwidth infotainment networking for nearly all of its platforms worldwide,” said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and General Manager of SMSC's Automotive Information Systems group. “BMW was the first customer for MOST and its continued adoption of our technology almost one decade later speaks to the level of performance, service and reliability that MOST delivers.”

MOST multimedia networking technology enables the networking of feature-rich infotainment systems in automobiles by providing the means to distribute multimedia entertainment functions among the various control devices around the car. For example, a CD changer, radio, global positioning system, mobile telephone and DVD player can be established in an efficient ring network and can send crisp, static-free audio signals digitally to the amplifier by utilizing the MOST network.
