There are many reports about software project failures. A lack of quality, delays and project cost explosion are often criticized by companies and organizations. This issue was addressed by an extraordinary long-distance guest lecture during the course "Fuzzy Sets and Fuzzy Systems" on May 2, 2018 at the Department of Computer Science, Nuremberg Institute of Technology, Germany. Prof. Dr. Sheta from the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, a worldwide known expert in the field of soft computing, joined the course live from Texas via a video conferencing tool and gave an exciting presentation on estimating software costs utilizing fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic can be used to handle uncertainties and vagueness during the process of software effort and cost predictions. In his innovative lecture, Professor Sheta explained how this works. He reported on a real-world case that he successfully carried out for NASA. With of his approach, he was able to achieve significantly better results compared to conventional methods. After Prof. Sheta's excellent talk, which was attended not only by the department’s students but also by other members of the university, a lively scientific discussion ensued. The feedback from all participants was very positive. The Nuremberg Tech would be delighted to expand its collaboration with Prof. Dr. Sheta and the renowned Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The German-American dialogue is alive!
