Water proofing chemicals area used in a surprisingly wide variety of different applications from treating leaks in basements to spraying clothes and textiles. This is a large market and one that is likely to enjoy a lot of growth over the coming years. The waterproofing chemicals market is a market that deals with sprays, adhesives and other chemicals that can provide water-resistant properties for a wide range of different applications.

This is a large and growing market, as water resistance is something that we come to expect more and more from our devices. There are many other uses for waterproofing chemicals too. These can be used to treat fabrics and clothes and thereby to provide more protective clothing for walking or running outside. At the same time, waterproofing chemicals can be used to seal leaks and to treat moisture issues. But how do waterproofing chemicals work? And why exactly is this such a big market? Let’s find out.

How Waterproofing Chemicals Work

So how exactly does a waterproofing chemical work? It is actually possible to purchase something known as a ‘waterproof spray’, which does exactly what it says on the tin. This seemingly magical spray allows you to simply spray an item of clothing for instance and then enjoy it being 100% waterproof.

So how can something like this possibly exist?

In fact, it is really rather simple. Consider that all materials have pores and this is what prevents them from being watertight initially. These pores keep the clothing cool but they also allow water in. the waterproofing spray solves the problem by covering the surface area with something that will enter the pores and then stay stuck there. This is usually a form of adhesive, such as a wax, an oil or a synthetic glue. Sometimes, these substances such as oils, will actually be able to repell the water to some extent.

You can purchase sprays to accomplish this on your own at home, some of which will be temporary in their effect, others of which will have permanent results. Of course the textiles and clothing industries also use these chemicals to a large extent and this creates a market for the chemicals.

openPR-Tip: It is worth noting though that these sprays will change the surface and texture of the material. The less ‘changed’ the material is, the less waterproof the item of clothing will have become.

Why Companies Waterproof Their Supplies

One of the bigger markets for waterproofing chemicals is the B2B market – and especially for companies that work in logistics. So why might a business need to use waterproofing chemicals?

The answer is sometimes to improve products that it creates and sells, whereas in other cases it can be used to protect products while in storage or transit. This is why it is particularly important for a logistics business, that may need to protect a large number of goods for another company.

Waterproofing in Construction and Contractor Work

You can consider something like polyfiller to be a waterproofing chemical. This is a soft, foamy substance that hardens into a material much like plaster to secure gaps in walls. Likewise, mastic is used in a similar way where more water is expected in order to seal windows and to seal shower screen doors. Auto glass uses an incredibly powerful adhesive that actually bonds materials at an atomic level. These kinds of chemicals are used a lot in the construction industry and as you can see, they amount to adhesives once again.

You might even need to use these adhesives to fix cracks, leaks and other issues in your own home. Particularly if you have a basement. So, you have a slight basement leak or a leak in another room that is not affecting you directly. Do you then repair this with crack repair, or do you ignore the basement leak until it becomes a problem?

The answer is of course to always get crack repair as soon as possible and to make sure that you spend the minimum possible time with a wet basement – and even better that you get waterproofing for your basement before a leak becomes a problem so that you never have to deal with a crack.   The reason for this is that a basement leak or any other kind of leak is not a slight problem but rather a serious one that you need to address as soon as you can. If you have a leak in your basement then this will result in many different problems that all have profound consequences.

First of all, if you have a basement leak then this is going to seriously place a strain on your heating and energy bills. This is because you will be trying to heat up a room when there is a direct breach where cold air and water is coming in. At the same time though having a wet basement will mean that the water steals the heat energy in the room in order to evaporate – so as fast as you can heat the room up it will be being sapped by the water in the room.  This then means that getting waterproofing is actually an investment and one that will save you money over time. At the same time though a wet basement has other repercussions too.

For instance, if you have a wet basement then this will mean that there is water vapor in the air as that water evaporates and this in turn will mean that you have damp air. This can cause breathing difficulties and make it harder for you to breath, but at the same time those water droplets are also likely to form condensation. They do this as the droplets of water attach themselves to cold surfaces to which they are attracted.  This then means that you have patches of moist surfaces in your property and that becomes a target for mold, for bacteria and for insects and vermin. The mold first of all is going to cause problems for your property – it will cover the walls and cause damage to the wallpaper or tiles you have causing them to come away from the surface. At the same time it will cause mold spores to enter the air and you will breath these in as you live there. This then means that you will be likely to develop asthma and that your immune system will come under more fire making you more likely to suffer from a range of illnesses. The insects you can get meanwhile can result in an infestation of cockroaches, of scorpions of spiders or more.  And all of this will only get worse. Never has there been a case of a crack or leak getting smaller over time – it will only get bigger and present more of a problem until you get crack repair and waterproofing.
