Davies Turner marks 25 years of partnership with GEBRÜDER WEISS

Davies Turner, the UK's leading freight services supplier, is marking the 25th anniversary of its strategic partnership with Austrian freight forwarder Gebrüder Weiss with enhanced services. The working relationship between the two companies was originally focused on the provision of freight forwarding services in the two-way trade between the UK and Austria only.

However, as Gebrüder Weiss has expanded its presence into other areas of Central and Eastern Europe, the relationship has evolved and Davies Turner now works with Gebrüder Weiss Group companies in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Both companies are building-up their logistics divisions, developing purpose built distribution centres at key points throughout their respective markets. The most recent expansion of the working relationship came recently when the two partners launched scheduled direct services between Romania and the UK with guaranteed departures every Friday in both directions.

Gebrüder Weiss, has its own consolidation facilities in all of the states mentioned above and also offers a national collection and distribution service throughout the region. The Gebrüder Weiss freight hubs in the region are Customs approved the same as Davies Turner's, allowing full import/export clearance services to be provided to and from the UK.

The two companies have enjoyed an extremely successful relationship, providing services for both full loads and groupage consignments. The trade between Austria and the UK remains traditionally based on five consolidation points in the UK at Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and London, and six in Austria at Vienna, Dornbirn, Graz, Linz, Innsbruck and Salzburg.

Gebrüder Weiss has now opened its largest ever terminal, in Maria Lanzendorf, Austria, replacing five of its previous Vienna terminals. The new 50,000 sq. m (540,000 sqft.) warehouse plus ancillary offices will accommodate over 450 staff and will allow the company to work more effectively by operating national and international services from one location. The new hub benefits from the latest cargo-handling equipment and systems. It will help Davies Turner strengthen and expedite further the cost-effective services it offers to and from Austria and its immediate neighbours. Through its partnership with Gebrüder Weiss, Davies Turner is able to offer daily truck departures in both directions.

Davies Turner Air Cargo also works with Gebruder Weiss to give shippers the full multi-modal choice by providing airfreight services between the UK and Austria, as well as all the other countries in Central Europe and the Balkans.
