Bizerba presents the GLM-P 2S pallet labelling machine

Balingen, 4th September 2009 – Increased reading reliability, minimum set-up times, simple integration into existing systems: these are just some of the features of the GLM-P 2S pallet labelling machine, which the Swabian technology manufacturer Bizerba http://www.bizerba.com is set to present at DrinkTec from 14 to 19 September in Munich (hall 5B, stand 444). With this, the Balingen-based company defines the term new versatility: with the Bizerba solution, pallets can be labelled on up to three sides and can be labelled fully automatically at three levels, if necessary, also with RFID labels. The labelling machine can apply GS1 or globally compliant EPC dispatch labels on up to 300 pallets per hour.

The GLM-P 2S applies the printed label to the rotary vacuum plate. Using a high-capacity linear units, this then moves to the desired position on both preset sides via the shortest possible route, without the pallet needing to be moved. This way, shorter cycle times can be achieved through smaller pallet intervals. For increased reading reliability, the GLM-P 2S also labels a third side and thus caters for storage situations in which pallets can’t be stored in the preferred orientation, such as on high rack storage areas for example. In this case, re-positioning of the pallets is necessary when the third site is labelled. On each side, the labels can be applied at three different levels that can be chosen freely. In total, up to twelve labels are possible per pallet. The co-ordinates can be pre-programmed or can be adapted for each pallet individually by the overriding system. So that labels can always be attached at the same height, a version is available with a fixed mounted vertical axis instead of the engine-driven variant.

Another benefit that also leads to shorter setup times: The pallet does not have to be completely cubical, the device touches the actual surface that is to be labelled, uneven surfaces can easily be handled by the spring-mounted vacuum. The simple switch from left-right operation to right-left operation offers investment security for new future designs of the conveyor system and once again demonstrates the versatility of the labelling machine. Uninterrupted operation is guaranteed by the high-output printers of the GLP or the GLM series: these allow label rolls with up to 2000 self-adhesive labels to be printed in the DIN A 5 format. The space-saving labelling machine is very flexible as it can also be retrofitted into existing systems – both as a stand-alone solution and as part of a comprehensive control and software concept – and can also be fitted to a calibratable weighing terminal. For operation with smart labels, an RFID unit can also be integrated if needed. A check scanner for checking the printed barcodes is also available.
