Regional Hospital Ottobeuren

Regional Hospital Ottobeuren

The Ottobeuren Regional Hospital is operated by the Unterallgäu county administration in Southern Germany, which has managed its community-owned hospitals in Mindelheim and Ottobeuren under the label "Unterallgäu-Kliniken" since the year 2000.

The category II hospital has been an academic teaching organization of Erlangen-Nuremberg University since 2004, and in 2005 it joined the Allgäu Osteoporosis Center, in a network with the Bavarian Osteoporosis Center of the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich-Grosshadern. Furthermore, the caregiver co-operates successfully with TCM University Nanjing in Southern China.

On 16 June 2009, an innovative solution for digital image and process management was handed over to the Ottobeuren Regional Hospital by VEPRO AG.

The contract had been awarded late in March 2009. It included the complete integration of all imaging devices such as CT, X-ray equipment, and angiography. The annual data volume of 1.5 TB is backed up to fail-safe servers and digital mass storage. All data is made available to the physicians who work on a patient case at every digital workplace (PC), in conformance with current data security regulations. In future, reporting for all imaging material will be performed only via special premium diagnostic workplaces. The work processes, from patient admission to exam orders down to the transfer of information to the referring physician, are fully digital.

The benefits are obvious: in addition to minimized errors, reduced cost, and environment-friendly elimination of film processing and chemicals-based processes, it is particular the patients who profit from the innovation: waiting times are cut significantly, and diagnostic quality is improved considerably.

After the rollout of the image management system, all of the staff, physicians and their department heads, and the management of the Ottobeuren Regional Hospital are convinced that this solution is the right path taking them to the future.
