Press release from: Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH

Lectures, presentations and discussion forums for suppliers, users and experts at Congress Centre Messe Frankfurt on 16 and 17 June 2009

With a comprehensive symposium programme, Techtextil will give exhibitors and visitors a future-oriented preview of the latest trends and developments in the worldwide sector at the Congress Centre Messe Frankfurt on 16 and 17 June.

The symposiums will focus on the subjects of ‘Materials and Technologies’,
‘Innovative Building with Textiles’, ‘The Latest Developments in Protective Clothing’ and ‘New Textile Products in the Medical Sector’.

Additionally, on 16 June, EURATEX, the European Apparel and Textile Organisation, will present research projects initiated by the EU, which aim to promote innovations in the field of technical textiles.

“With this programme at the world’s leading trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, we are once again showing that it not only spotlights the latest products but is also a platform for orientation, information and making business contacts”, explains Olaf Schmidt, Vice President, Textile Fairs.

The user and practice oriented Techtextil and Avantex Symposiums will be presented by business and scientific experts in over 70 lectures and discussion forums.

The 15th Techtextil Symposium presents:

Materials + Technology, new areas of application for technical textiles and the functionalisation of textiles. Professor Carl A. Lawrence of the University of Leeds, Great Britain, will chair this future-oriented lecture block on 16 June.

Also on the Tuesday of the fair, Dr. Thomas Stegmaier of the Institute for Textile and Process Technology (Institut für Textil- und Verfahrenstechnik), Denkendorf, will introduce lectures on the subject of ‘Buildtech’ covering textile materials in the building sector. Particular attention will be paid, for example, to the physical qualities needed for using fabrics and membranes in the construction sector.

On 17 June, the Techtextil Symposium will turn the spotlight on the latest developments in the protective-clothing segment. Called ‘Protech’, it is one of the six main markets in Europe, a market in which European manufacturers play the leading role. Dr. Jan Laperre of Centexbel, Belgium, will chair this lecture block, which will look at the efficient use of new technologies and the strict laws and standards that demand outstanding solutions from the industry.

Medical textiles will round off the symposium programme on the Wednesday of the fair. Professor Heinrich Planck, of the Institute for Textile and Process Technology, Denkendorf, will preside over the lectures on new Textile Products in the Medical Sector. Particularly interesting is the idea that technical textiles have an ever-greater potential in this sector because it is possible that they could function as transplant organs in the future.

The Sports + Outdoor area of application will open the 5th Avantex Symposium on 16 June and, with Dr. René Rossi, of the Swiss Materials Testing and Research Institute (Eidgenössische Materialprüfungs- und Forschungsanstalt) in the chair, will present textiles and garment fabrics for optimum muscle performance, improved aerodynamics and hydrodynamics and the best possible cooling process. In this lecture block, the emphasis will be on functionality, a high degree of wearing comfort and protection against environmental influences.

The second lecture block on the Tuesday revolves around wearable technologies and e-textiles with the focus on the integration of electronic systems in textiles. Areas of application for smart textiles are to be found, for example, in the medical sector, for protective clothing, in the automotive industry and for leisure. Dr. Hartmut Strese of VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, Berlin, will take the chair for this innovative lecture block.

The Wednesday of the fair will be dominated by Material + Technology and will reveal the latest developments in the field of fibre-spinning technology and new technologies, such as plasma technology, nanotechnology and micro-encapsulation in the finishing process. The lectures will be introduced by Dr. Roshan Shishoo of Shishoo Consulting, Sweden.

Fashion + Design will also be an important topic on 17 June. Dr. Sharon Baurley of Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, Great Britain, will present a variety of interesting examples of innovative fashion applications with the emphasis on certain production processes, such as biomimetics, electronic fashion and rapid prototyping.

The EURATEX Forum will be held during the afternoon of 16 June and examine the subject of industrial innovations in the field of technical textiles. Top speakers and representatives of innovative research in the EU will provide an overview of the strategies and tools used in these research projects.

The symposiums and the EURATEX Forum will be held in the Congress Centre Messe Frankfurt. All lectures will be translated simultaneously into German and English.
