trac-x Increases Number of Tradable Day-Ahead Network Points

Leipzig, 2 February 2009 – The European trading platform trac-x has again increased the number of tradable network points in the day-ahead section of their platform. From 02 February 2009, day-ahead capacities can be traded at the additional cross-border points Ellund (D-DK), Emden NPT (D-N), Emden EPT (D-NL), Bocholtz (D-NL), Medelsheim (D-F), Oberkappel (D-A), Vreden (D-NL) and Wallbach (D-CH) as well as at the German interconnection points Steinitz, Drohne and Emsbüren. After the company first increased its number of network points in October 2008, the overall number of tradable day-ahead points has now reached 16. In the future, day-ahead capacities at the network point Ellund can be traded within the transmission networks of E.ON Gastransport and Dong. Day-ahead capacities at the remaining new network points can be traded exclusively within the transmission network of E.ON Gastransport. Moreover, negotiations between trac-x and other network operators are currently under way in order to make day-ahead capacities of other networks available at the new network points. Thus, it is planned to make capacities at the cross-border point Ellund tradable within the networks of Danish energinet.dk within the next few months. Interested traders can now register for the new network points on the platform.

Mr. Protze said that February’s E-world 2009 not only presented a great opportunity to strengthen the company’s presence but also to make and intensify contacts with European traders.

trac-x Transport Capacity Exchange GmbH was established in order to create a transparent and non-discriminatory trading platform for secondary trading of transmission capacities. It has operated a trading platform for gas transmission capacities in Europe since March 2005. Currently, around 350 traders from 17 countries are registered on www.trac-x.de. They can trade secondary capacity rights across Europe in the networks of the following transmission system operators: Dong Energy Pipelines GmbH, E.ON Gastransport GmbH, EWE NETZ GmbH, RWE Transportnetz Gas GmbH, Gasunie Deutschland Transport Services GmbH, Ontras GmbH.

In addition to long-term trading, it has been possible to trade firm day-ahead capacity rights at the cross-border point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl (between Germany and the Netherlands) since May 2008. Since October 2008, the cross-border point Eynatten/Raeren (between Germany and Belgium) as well as further interconnection points at Bunder Tief, Reckrod and Lampertheim can be traded on the European platform. After the latest network expansion, there are now 16 network points and cross-border points tradable in the day-ahead section of the platform.
