Winter in Zell am See-Kaprun

Winter in Zell am See-Kaprun

The 'Europa-Sportregion' has always been a byword for holiday fun and eventful leisure time. Whether visitors come with all their families or just on their own: 130 kilometres of finest pistes, innumerable sporting opportunities, and hotels that offer anything you can possibly wish for make Zell am See and Kaprun one of the most important holiday destinations in Austria. Especially during the cold season there are no limits to one's leisure time fun: tobogganing, skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or skating are just some of the many offers from a practically inexhaustible repertoire.

The 'Europa-Sportregion' starts into the winter season 2005/2006 with a large-scale campaign for even better quality. Despite the fact that a survey carried out by the university college for public administration management in Linz showed guests to be fully satisfied with the services provided in Zell and Kaprun (in almost all areas, from friendliness of staff to the design of the website, the marks given were 'good' or even 'very good') the region does not want to rest on its laurels, but intends to develop its offers for tourists even further.

Just in time for the beginning of the cold season there are some new developments to be discovered: new systems for producing artificial snow have been installed on Sonnenalm and Sonnkogel in order to guarantee optimum snow conditions. Thus the all-rounder and family pistes of Zell's local mountain of 'Schmittenhöhe' have been made the ideal destination for winter sports enthusiasts of all ages even in bad weather. All ski-runs that reach down into the valley and nearly 90 percent of all pistes on Schmittenhöhe can now be provided with artificial snow.

Before the onset of winter the lift at Hochmais will be replaced by a six-seater chairlift. Weather protection covers and luxury seats that even have seat heating guarantee for a very comfortable ride in the 1,230 metre lift that bridges about 382 metres of difference in height. A maximum of 3,000 people an hour can reach the top station by this way. Furthermore: another new ski-run is under construction. It will enlarge the piste area to about 200 hectares – plenty of space for fast downhill runs in rich powder snow.

And Schmittenhöhe is by far not the only place where visitors can enjoy a carefree holiday. 'Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG', the company that operates the skiing area on the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn, has been awarded the ISO 9001 certificate of the technical inspection association for its high safety standards and its exceptionally well qualified personnel.

Last but not least, the hotels of region are taking part in this 'campaign for even better quality' by improving their infrastructure and services. Guests coming to the 'Europa-Sportregion' can look forward to lots of new amenities in the near future.

More information about the new developments in the 'Europa-Sportregion' is to be found on the internet at www.europasportregion.info.

castlecamp 2.0: Kaprun hosts an unconference on e-tourism
'to be or not to be in tourism - castlecamp.at 09 - you're not there? bad luck - successful tourism moves on #cczk09' wrote Wolfgang Burgschwaiger on Twitter. The owner of the wellness hotel Übergossene Alm in Austrian Dienten is one of the trailblazers in the hotel industry. But when it comes to social media Burgschwaiger is open to new input, just like the other 100 participants who followed the

Zell am See-Kaprun: dashing through deep powder snow

Questions in the cable car: premiere of the Zell am See-Kaprun Gondelquiz
They seem surprised, perhaps even a little intimidated at first when Sebastian Kaufmann gets out his microphone. They have met in the cable car of the trassXpress, a state-of-the-art facility taking visitors up to Schmittenhöhe. 'Heike' answers the woman sitting next to Kaufmann shyly when being asked about her name. Together with Sabine and Frank, she has come to the region from Braunshardt in Germany to spend her holidays on
Tourism experts are looking forward to the 'castlecamp' at Kaprun from 13th Sept …
It is general practice among the visitors of a 'barcamp' to take home a sticker once the 'unconference' has finished. That way, the participants want to say, 'I was in on that.' The idea is not really new. For decades, travellers have collected that kind of souvenirs of their holiday destinations and stuck them to their suitcases. It's the 'barcamps' themselves that are new. They have only been organized for
Zell am See-Kaprun invite to an 'unconference' at the castle
Anyone who has ever been in the audience of a large conference, congress, or seminar, maybe even for several days in a row, knows that phenomenon only too well: there are set schedules to be followed, hours of talks and lots of useless information to be listened to. And the only topic you are really interested in is usually placed right at the bottom of the agenda. By the time
