The 'XC Golf Challenge' promises golfing fun on 2,500 metres of altitude and a stunning panorama.

In Zell am See-Kaprun, the 'Sun, Snow & Party Week' and spring go together without saying just like fluffy snowflakes and the glacier on Kitzsteinhorn do. This year, the traditional festival rings in the end of the winter season with huge parties and extraordinary sports events from 29th March to 4th April. Half a dozen famous visitors have announced their coming for these spectacular winter finals. And a true top act is waiting down the line as well: Smokie, a true cult band, is performing live on stage and puts the heat on visitors of Zell am See and Kaprun.

The five Brits are one of the most popular bands of the 70s and have landed uncountable hits in the top ten music charts, among them the evergreen song 'Living next door to Alice'. On 2nd April, the most famous neighbour in the history of music is going to visit Zell am See-Kaprun along with her 'makers' who are performing live in concert at the fairground of Areitbahn valley station. Another special treat for the fans: the entrance to the huge party event is free of charge!

Music of the finest will also be performed on 3rd April when the musicians of 'De la rosa' from Salzburg will make the snow stage on Kaprun's Kitzsteinhorn melt with their Latin-American groove. From the Alpincenter at 2,450 metres above sea level to the time-honoured building of Kaprun Castle: the following evening, lovers of Caribbean rhythms can join the huge Reggae Night for free! Jazz and pop music are on the programme, too. Drop in at the Panorama Pfiff on Schmittenhöhe on Sunday 30th March, for example, and enjoy the concert.

But there is more than music. The programme of the 'Sun, Snow & Party Week' is brimming with other exciting events, too: on 1st April the Austrian skiing legend Franz Klammer is testing the latest skis for the winter season of 2008/2009. Celebrities and visitors are welcome to join him. The jury of the 'World Ski Test' consists of former ski racer Marc Girardelli, Austrian pop singer Nik P, and TV host, author, and singer Nadja Abd El Farrag. They will be present as well at the huge prêt-à-porter show at the Panorama Pfiff on Schmittenhöhe staring at 8.30 p.m.

And there are another two events which will guarantee for more optical highlights. At the Splash Contest, coming up on Schmittenhöhe on 6th April, the participants have to ride across water and snow with their skis. The 'XC Golf Challenge' is the second highlight: the snow-covered area around the Ice Camp on Kitzsteinhorn makes the course for the participants of this cross golf competition. The game is played cross-country against the breathtaking panorama of the Alpine summits. If you want to take part, you don't have to come in the traditional golfer's outfit. All you have to bring is enthusiasm for golfing at a height of around 2,500 metres above sea level.

Information summary:
The holiday region of Zell am See-Kaprun with its 14,000 beds and two million overnight stays per year is one of the most important holiday destinations in Austria. The beautiful flora and fauna in the Alpine panorama and Lake Zell guarantee relaxation and well-being. Golfing, hiking, and bathing are at the focus for the summer time programme, but visitors can choose from more than 40 other activities as well. During the cold season, fun on skis and boards make sure that there is no dull moment. Skiers can comfortably reach the 136 kilometres of slopes covered with powder snow by one of the 56 lifts. Snowboarders enjoy the perfect conditions of the Snowpark on the 2,600-metre-high glacier plateau. Even in the summer you can swish down the slopes here. And family-friendliness is a top priority in Zell am See and Kaprun. For this reason, the region has already received various awards.

It is general practice among the visitors of a 'barcamp' to take home a sticker once the 'unconference' has finished. That way, the participants want to say, 'I was in on that.' Anyone who has ever been in the audience of a large conference, congress, or seminar, maybe even for several days in a row, knows that phenomenon only too well: there are set schedules to be followed, hours of talks and lots of useless information to be listened to.
