Sharpsmart and Liverpool Women's Hospital Win Award for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management at Awards for Excellence 2017

Sharpsmart Ltd and Liverpool Women’s Hospital are celebrating after taking home the award for ‘Waste Management Initiative in the Commercial & Public Sector’ at the 14th Awards for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management.

The award follows an ongoing project between Sharpsmart and the trust, whereby implementing Sharpsmart’s reusable sharps and waste segregation and disposal systems has so far seen the trust reduce their CO2 emissions by approximately 56 tonnes and divert 40% of generated waste from incineration.

Hosted by TV presenter Gethin Jones, winners including businesses, local authorities and the third sector were recognised at the lavish awards ceremony on May 18th.

Commenting on the standard of entries received, John Woodruff, Principal Consultant at Ricardo and one of this year’s judges said, ‘The quality of the entries was extremely high, and as always, it was heartening to see the range of initiatives and developments which are taking place across a wide spectrum of sectors. The judging process was extremely difficult, and whilst the finalists represent genuine excellence, all the entries demonstrated ambition, endeavour and an understanding of good resource management’.
