Thieme Wins Three First Prizes From the British Medical Association

New York/Stuttgart – Thieme Publishers has won three first prize awards in the 2008 British Medical Association Medical Book Competition. One highly commended and four commended honors were presented to the company as well. The annual competition aims to encourage and reward excellence in medical publishing.

Surgical Treatment of Orthopaedic Trauma by James P. Stannard, MD, Andrew H. Schmidt, MD, and Philip J. Kregor, MD, picked up first prize in the “Orthopaedics and Rheumatology” category. The standard-setting book provides up-to-date information on surgical treatments covering a broad range of injuries, from complex pelvic and spinal trauma to periarticular fractures and knee dislocations. It also received the top clinical medical book prize from the Association of American Publishers earlier this year.

Surgery of the Auricle: Tumors-Trauma-Defects-Abnormalities, by Hilko Weerda, MD, received first prize in the “Ear Nose Throat” category. The comprehensive guide focuses on the delicate and complex procedures associated with the external ear.

Breast Cancer: Early Detection with Mammography: Casting Type Calcifications: Sign of a Subtype With Deceptive Features by Laszlo Tabar, MD, Tibor Tot, MD, and Peter B. Dean, MD, was also awarded first prize in the “Radiology” category. This book helps clinicians learn how to best use mammography to detect breast cancer in its earliest possible phase.
