Brigade Returns to Automechanika with an Impressive Range of Vehicle Safety Devices

Press release from: Brigade Electronics PLC

Brigade has been a pioneer in vehicle safety for over thirty years and will be demonstrating the MDR-304 digital recorder in hall 3.1, stand E44. Designed to protect driver and passenger safety, whilst combating false collision damage insurance claims in an increasingly litigious society, the MDR-304 captures events in ‘real time’ with 25 frames per second. Footage can be used as irrefutable evidence, often leading to claims being settled out of court.

The MDR has three trigger inputs, such as bus doors opening or a panic button being pressed and two trigger outputs such as an audible or visual warning. GPS is optional and can pin point the exact location of the vehicle at any given time.

Simple to install, the MDR can be fitted under the driver’s seat or in a convenient recess, is shock proof and can be linked to a lap top for playback or download via the USB connection. An SD card reader can also store information, without the need to remove any equipment from the vehicle. The MDR 304 is fully compatible with all of Brigade’s leading camera-monitor systems and can be added to an existing Brigade reversing or side view camera.

Also on display will be Brigade’s EU approved solutions for the latest blind spot directive (2007/38/EC) due to be enforced early next year. The Dobli mirror and Brigade’s camera-monitor systems meet the requirements of the directive and extend the driver’s field of vision, reducing the number of pedestrian and cyclist fatalities caused by side turn collisions.

In addition, Brigade has developed a new range of cameras which can be mounted horizontally or vertically. The 500 series cameras are unique with a wide viewing angle of 160º and only require one hole for fitment. They can be fitted to the bumper for a reversing view or to the front to meet the requirements on class four of the EU directive (2003/97/EC). Front mounted cameras are an ideal solution for truck operators who experience problems with knocked or broken mirrors in the truck wash.

Brigade’s white sound reversing alarms (bbs-tek) are now considered the safest on the market due to their distinct “ssh ssh” sound, which is locatable and directional unlike conventional ‘bleeping’ alarms, whose sound is so pervasive that it can be heard well outside the danger area, with the result that people can become desensitised and ignore them. The sound is localised to the danger area and therefore does not cause a noise nuisance like tonal alarms.

Also on display will be the new self adjusting broad band sound alarm. Self-adjusting bbs-tek reversing alarms take the guesswork out of sound pressure level (SPL), selection. This makes them ideal for vehicles working in areas with widely different ambient noise levels, where a fixed volume alarm would be either too quiet in loud environments – a hazardous situation – or too loud in quiet locations, causing possible noise nuisance and irritation.

The intelligent bbs-tek alarm measures the ambient sound pressure level and adjusts the alarm up or down to maintain just 5-10dB louder – loud enough to be heard but not so loud as to cause a nuisance.

The alarm features a small, highly robust microphone that measures and continuously adjusts the sound pressure level. The self-adjusting bbs-tek back alarm has a sound level range from 77 to 97dB (A) and 87 to 101 dB (A) which makes them ideal for all commercial vehicles and mobile plant.

Other new products include Brigade’s new five inch, low cost monitor with ten LED lights for low light performance.
