Detroit Drivers Can Now Donate Cars to Fund Prisoner Commissary Grants

DETROIT, Michigan - Mustard Farms Ministries has launched vehicle donation across Metro Detroit through DonateACar.io, giving drivers from Warren to Dearborn a way to turn high-mileage sedans, rust-belt trucks, and winter-weary SUVs into commissary grants for incarcerated people. The program accepts cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, and boats - running or not - with free tow pickup across the metro.

Few places understand a car's full life cycle like Southeast Michigan. The vehicle that carried a family through a decade of January commutes on I-75 still has value at auction - and through this program, that value becomes soap, stamps, hygiene items, and writing supplies for prisoners. Michigan donors fund Michigan grants first.

Donation takes one call to 855-500-RIDE (855-500-7433) or a visit to the Detroit donation page at https://donateacar.io/michigan/detroit/. A free tow is scheduled anywhere in the metro - Livonia, Troy, Taylor, Pontiac, Dearborn, Warren - and processing partner CARS, an established national vehicle-donation processor, handles the auction and paperwork. The vehicle does not need to run. Michigan donors transfer the title through the Secretary of State process; any lien must be released first, and the CARS team guides donors through each step.

Inside a prison, the commissary is the only store, and many incarcerated people have little or no money on their accounts. A bar of soap, a stamp for a letter home, paper and a pen for a class assignment - small items that the grant program puts directly into people's hands, funded one donated vehicle at a time.

As a thank-you, every donor receives a free hotel stay: the room rate is covered and the donor pays taxes and fees, with full terms published on the program's website. For qualifying sales over $500, the processor issues IRS Form 1098-C paperwork. Anyone weighing the tax implications of a vehicle donation should consult their own tax advisor; the organization does not provide tax advice.

The program serves donors across Michigan and the United States, with free towing nationwide. Michigan program information: https://donateacar.io/michigan/
