Manganese Sulphate Price Today: September 2026 Update
According to the Epignosis Insights manganese sulphate price tracker, battery-grade manganese sulphate (Mn ≥32%, ex-works China) averaged an estimated CNY 7,650 per tonne in September 2026, or about USD 1,117 per tonne. The battery grade manganese sulphate price fell 1.3% from August but remains around 21% higher than in January 2026, when it traded near CNY 6,300 per tonne.
Why Did Manganese Sulphate Prices Ease in September?
The September dip was driven by lower raw-material costs. Major suppliers cut their October manganese ore price offers to China as port stocks stayed high and demand from the steel alloy sector remained weak. Buyers of high-purity manganese sulphate also relied mainly on long-term contracts, which kept spot trading thin and added mild downward pressure.
Manganese Sulphate Price Trend 2026: What Drove the Rally?
The 2026 manganese sulfate price trend has been shaped mainly by costs. Sulphuric acid prices rose to multi-year highs in the first half of the year and imported ore stayed firm. Epignosis Insights estimates that production costs rose about 11% between January and April, while producers lifted prices even faster, expanding margins from roughly 12% to 18% of the selling price. Margins are now estimated at 13-15%.
HPMSM Demand from Electric Vehicles
Demand for HPMSM (high-purity manganese sulphate monohydrate) is closely linked to electric vehicle batteries, especially NCM and LMFP cathodes. China's new energy vehicle sales grew nearly 18% year-on-year in August 2026 and reached a record share of more than 60% of total vehicle sales, supported by strong exports. The faster LMFP batteries gain market share, the stronger manganese sulphate demand is likely to become.
Manganese Ore Supply and Global Sourcing
Global manganese ore supply is highly concentrated, with South Africa producing close to 40% of world output. China refines most of the world's manganese sulphate but relies on imported ore. Outside China, governments and automakers are backing new high-purity manganese sulphate projects, which Epignosis Insights expects to create a regional price premium from 2027.
Manganese Sulphate Price Forecast: Q4 2026 Outlook
The Epignosis Insights manganese sulphate price forecast sets a base case of CNY 7,300-7,900 per tonne for the fourth quarter of 2026. The bear case is CNY 6,900-7,300 if ore and acid prices fall further, while the bull case of CNY 7,900-8,500 would require a new acid price spike, ore supply disruption or stronger restocking by precursor makers.
