What is Candidiasis?

Candidiasis is an infection caused by a fungus of the Candida genus, most commonly Candida albicans. The infection generally affects the skin and/or mucous membranes of areas such as the mouth, intestines, and vagina. In otherwise healthy individuals, candidiasis is rarely serious; however, in people with impaired immune function, the infection can spread to other parts of the body.
In severe cases, candidiasis may affect the bloodstream, the membrane lining the heart muscle (endocardium), or the membranes surrounding the brain (meninges). Candida is normally present in healthy individuals, but its growth can become excessive when factors such as chemotherapy or broad-spectrum antibiotics suppress normal bacterial flora. Conditions including pregnancy and diabetes mellitus may also increase susceptibility to Candida infection.
The clinical presentation varies widely, ranging from relatively mild and common oral or vaginal infections to rare and severe systemic infections involving major organs. The disease management landscape includes antifungal therapies and emerging approaches designed to address fungal infections, particularly in immunocompromised populations.

Emerging Candidiasis Drug Profiles

HRS9432: Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine
HRS9432 is a long-acting echinocandin antifungal medication primarily designed to treat invasive fungal infections, particularly invasive candidiasis. Clinical trials have assessed the safety and tolerability of HRS9432 in healthy subjects through randomized, double-blind, dose-escalation study designs. The available clinical data indicate that HRS9432 was generally well tolerated, with manageable side effects in the studied populations. HRS9432 is currently in Phase II development for Candidiasis.

MAT2203: MATINAS BIOPHARMA HOLDINGS
MAT2203 is an oral and non-toxic enco¬chleated formulation of amphotericin B (CAmB) developed using the company's LNC technology. Amphotericin B is a broad-spectrum antifungal treatment used particularly in immunocompromised patients. MAT2203 is designed to deliver the antifungal agent directly to infected tissues while reducing unnecessary systemic exposure and associated toxicity. MAT2203 is currently in Phase II development for Candidiasis.

Prof-001: ProFem GmbH
Prof-001 is among the emerging pipeline products being evaluated in the Candidiasis therapeutic landscape. The candidate is being developed by ProFem GmbH as part of the company's efforts to address Candida infections through novel therapeutic approaches.
