Press release from: Knockhill Racing Circuit

It is fitting that the 40th Anniversary of the twice F1 World Champion’s tragic death be marked at Knockhill as Jim Clark was born in Kilmany in Fife.

Jim’s name will forever be linked to Lotus who will also add much excitement to the event by celebrating 60 years of producing sports cars which are considered by many to be the finest handling cars in the world.

Hundreds of Lotus owners from all corners of the UK and many foreign fans of the famous marque will converge at Knockhill including a special display and track demonstrations. The impressive entourage of Lotus cars and fans will arrive at Knockhill having driven directly from Duns in Berwickshire after visiting the famous Jim Clark Room and paying their respects at Jim’s grave at Chirnside.

Examples of the many and varied cars driven by Jim will be on show at Classic SpeedFair.

Alongside Jim Clark, the Classic Speedfair at Knockhill will aslo pay homage to another of Scotland's Motorsport greats.

The 1995 World Rally Championship winning Subaru of the late, great Colin McRae will be on show whilst slightly more elderly rally machines from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s will battle it out on the Knockhill special stage, culminating in a 12 top car shoot out on part of the circuit.

Colin’s father, 5 times British Rally Champion Jimmy McRae is hoping to visit Classic SpeedFair and a selection of McRae memorabilia will remind visitors of just how much the Lanark hero achieved in the world of rallying.

Other famous Motorsport names lined up for the spectacular Sunday include David Leslie Snr who will present the ‘David Leslie Trophy’ in memory of his son who was tragically killed in a plane crash on March 30th.

Also from the sport of rallying, former ‘Top Gear’ presenter Tony Mason who for many years was co-driver to the legendary, late Roger Clark will be in attendance along with Roger’s son Olly who continues to fly the famous Clark name in rallying today.

Each year we have been able to celebrate a major landmark date in Motor Sport history. In this, the 50th Anniversary year of the British Touring Car Championship, it is a great honour that the first ever winner of that series, Jack Sears, is with us on this special weekend.
