Will the Knockhill Lap Record be Broken at Speedfair?

06-06-2008 01:00 PM CET | Sports

Press release from: Knockhill Racing Circuit

At the inaugural Classic SpeedFair in 2006, spectators were treated to the awesome sight and sound of a Formula One Ferrari setting the fastest ever lap time of the 1.3 miles of Knockhill.

The record was set by Aberdeen racing driver Nathan Kinch with a remarkable time of 41.3 seconds.

On Sunday, 8th June, several drivers will line up to attempt to break Nathan’s time in an assortment of single seater racing cars but all with one thing in common….. massively powered F1 engines.

Some of Britain’s fastest (and noisiest) race cars will arrive in Scotland to be driven flat out by their owners.

Organiser Roy Napier who will be at the wheel of his amazingly fast Gould GR375 has promised “Scottish fans won’t have seen anything like these cars and I’m certain one of our group will claim a new record.”

Roy added “I hope Knockhill will be providing ear plugs as the decibels are devastating!”

In recognition of the growing status and financial significance of the event, the Knockhill Classic SpeedFair has gained the support of Event Scotland, the organisation working to make Scotland one of the world’s leading event destinations. Event Scotland is helping to develop a range of sporting and cultural events to raise Scotland’s profile and boots the economy by attracting more visitors. Additionally and valued support has also been provided by Fife Council.

“It is quite a landmark for the Classic SpeedFair to have gained the backing of Event Scotland and Fife Council in only two years,” said Event Director Stuart Gray from Knockhill. “It is very rewarding to have such important recognition for the event and we’re busy working to ensure the 2008 event is the best yet.”

The show will boast an enviable display of classic cars from various countries, a special exhibits marquee including a magnificent Ferrari 246 Dino Single Seater and P4 display (as driven by Sir Jackie Stewart), a live, hillside car trial, an on the day classic autotest, track sessions, Lotus parade plus racing including American Legend cars, Classic Sports and Saloon cars, Formula Fords, the fabulous Ferrari’s and to top it all, a breath-taking aerobatic display.
