Global Data Center Market to Reach USD 959.19 Billion by 2031:

Global data center investment exceeded USD 514.26 billion in 2025, up around 35.22% from 2024. But the more significant shift is taking place in the scale and infrastructure requirements of new capacity. Hyperscale and AI deployments are pushing facilities toward 100-500 MW and beyond, while higher rack densities are changing power and cooling requirements. At the same time, investment is expanding across established and emerging markets, creating a broader development cycle for data center, energy, cooling, connectivity, and construction infrastructure.

Data Centers Are Moving into a New Power Scale
The expansion of AI, cloud computing, machine learning, and high-performance computing is changing the power profile of new facilities. Enterprise data centers typically operate at 1-10 MW, compared with 20-100 MW for hyperscale facilities. AI-focused campuses are moving into the 100-500 MW or more range, with some planned projects targeting up to 1 GW. The shift is also reaching the rack level, where AI workloads are driving densities of 30-100 kW or more, putting greater demands on the power and cooling systems required to support these deployments.

40 GW of Renewable Power Highlights Rising Energy Requirements
The growing electricity requirement is also influencing how major technology company's secure power. Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft have secured contracts representing approximately 40 GW of wind and solar power in the U.S. through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). This is increasing the importance of reliable power supply, renewable generation, backup systems, and electrical equipment as operators expand capacity.

Electrical Infrastructure Represents Up to 50% of Facility CapEx
Electrical infrastructure accounts for approximately 35-50% of total facility capital expenditure (CapEx), making it one of the largest components of project spending. UPS systems, batteries, generators, and power distribution are central to new developments. Battery preferences are also evolving, with lithium-ion increasingly preferred for new hyperscale facilities because of lower space requirements and replacement costs, while Nickel-Zinc and sodium-ion technologies are gaining traction because of their power density, safety, and sustainability characteristics.

Higher Rack Densities Are Redefining Cooling Requirements
Higher computing density is creating a corresponding shift in mechanical systems, which account for approximately 25-40% of facility CapEx. Rack densities that historically averaged 5-10 kW are increasingly reaching 30-100 kW or more, with some AI deployments exceeding 150 kW per rack. Direct-to-chip cooling is currently the larger and more widely adopted liquid-cooling method, while immersion cooling is gaining traction in higher-density AI and HPC environments.

Latin America Adds $31 Billion to the Investment Pipeline
Capital is also expanding beyond established locations. Latin America is projected to attract $31 billion in cumulative investment between 2026 and 2031, excluding IT infrastructure, with Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and other countries emerging as investment destinations. This expansion is supporting demand for new facilities as well as the power, connectivity, and construction infrastructure required to develop them.

APAC Data Center Investment to Reach $83.88 Billion by 2031
APAC represents another major growth market. Regional investment was valued at $34.65 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach $83.88 billion by 2031, growing at a 15.87% CAGR. Malaysia and Thailand are among the fastest-growing markets, while Singapore continues to face limited land availability and high development costs.

Europe and Middle East & Africa Expand the Global Capacity Landscape
Europe continues to combine established hubs with emerging locations. The FLAP-D markets remain important centers of activity, while the Nordic countries continue to attract hyperscale development because of their combination of power, climate, connectivity, sustainability, and political stability. In the Middle East and Africa, digitalization, connectivity, government initiatives, and AI infrastructure investment are supporting further capacity development.

The Market is Creating Demand Across the Wider Supply Chain
The expansion is extending beyond facility development into the broader infrastructure ecosystem. Larger campuses require greater electrical capacity and advanced cooling, while higher rack densities are increasing requirements for thermal management. Renewable energy, backup power, connectivity, and construction are also becoming important parts of project development, creating demand for equipment manufacturers, EPC companies, power providers, cooling specialists, developers, cloud operators, and infrastructure investors.
