Walk and Talk: Why More and More Coaches Are Moving Their Conversations Outside
Walk and Talk refers to a conversation that takes place while walking rather than sitting. The approach was pioneered by Canadian psychologist Kate Hays, who originally used it in psychotherapy. Her reasoning: Movement helps people make progress on difficult topics and stimulates freer, more creative thinking. From there, the principle has long since spread to coaching and everyday professional life. The effect is scientifically supported by a 2014 Stanford study by Marily Oppezzo and Daniel Schwartz: Test subjects performed significantly better on creativity tasks while walking than while sitting, regardless of whether they were indoors on a treadmill or outdoors. The method has also found its way into the business world. Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg became known for their walking meetings, and entrepreneur Nilofer Merchant further popularized the format with her TED Talk "Got a Meeting? Take a Walk." She describes the effect as leveling the playing field: Hierarchy plays less of a role when both parties are walking side by side rather than sitting across from each other in a conference room.
Platforms like HolidayCoaching incorporate "Walk and Talk" directly into vacations, for example along the Alster in Hamburg, in the Lueneburg Heath, or on the Elbe meadows in Dresden. After a brief initial consultation, the coach clarifies the issue at hand, followed by an on-site session--usually lasting 60 to 90 minutes--for which sturdy shoes are all you need.
For anyone who'd rather try "Walk and Talk" in their familiar surroundings instead of on vacation, coachverzeichnis.com offers an overview of specialized coaches organized by location and method. The trend shows that professional conversations are increasingly moving away from fixed spaces in favor of movement, which itself supports the thought process.

HolidayCoaching is a platform that integrates coaching experiences directly into your vacation. Instead of taking place in an office or via video, the sessions happen on-site--as a forest bathing experience, a Walk & Talk, or a traditional coaching conversation--accompanied by coaches at select locations in Germany, including the Lueneburg Heath, Hamburg, and Dresden. The goal is to combine personal development with genuine relaxation.

"Righting Reflex": Why Well-Meant Advice Often Has the Opposite Effect
A problem is described, and advice follows almost automatically: "Why don't you just...". Psychologists William Miller and Stephen Rollnick, founders of the Motivational Interviewing approach, coined a term for this pattern decades ago that is still cited today in counseling, therapy, and coaching: the "righting reflex"--the automatic urge to immediately solve someone else's problem instead of guiding the other person toward their own solution.
The tricky thing about this reflex is…

Forest Bathing on Vacation: What's Behind the Japanese Health Trend Shinrin-Yoku
A slow stroll through the forest, with no destination and no distractions: What sounds like a simple walk has its own name in Japan and a growing body of scientific evidence.
