MS8607: Measure Pressure, Temperature, and Humidity with a Single Sensor Module

Compact devices and environmental monitoring systems often require several parameters to be measured simultaneously. With the MS8607, AMSYS offers a proven sensor solution that measures barometric pressure, temperature and relative humidity in a single, space-saving module. This makes the sensor particularly suitable for applications where compact dimensions, low power consumption and digital access to multiple environmental parameters are essential.

The sensor combines two different MEMS sensing principles: a piezoresistive sensing element measures pressure and temperature, while a capacitive sensor detects relative humidity. The measured values are digitally processed and provided via an I2C interface for further processing by a microcontroller. The sensor is factory calibrated, helping simplify integration into existing electronic and device designs.

Three Parameters in Just 5 ? 3 mm

With a QFN package measuring only 5 ? 3 ? 1 mm3, the MS8607 requires very little PCB space. The pressure measurement range extends from 10 to 2,000 mbar, while relative humidity can be measured from 0 to 100 %RH. Temperature measurements cover a range from -40 to +85 ?C.

At the highest resolution setting, the sensor achieves a pressure resolution of 0.016 mbar, a humidity resolution of 0.04 %RH and a temperature resolution of up to 0.002 ?C. At 25 ?C, the absolute accuracy within the specified ranges is ?2 mbar for pressure, ?3 %RH for relative humidity and ?1 ?C for temperature. The supply voltage range of 1.5 to 3.6 V also supports compact, battery-powered systems. Typical standby current consumption is only 0.03 mA.

Typical applications include HVAC systems, weather stations, household appliances, humidifiers, printers and mobile or portable electronics. Especially where several environmental parameters need to be measured within a limited space, the combination module can help reduce component count and integration effort.
