POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Islander Aviation LLC has named Samuel Jr. Tavarez as General Manager and Director of Maintenance, strengthening the company's aircraft maintenance, inspection, repair, and avionics capabilities at its FAA Part 145 Repair Station at Pompano Beach Airpark (KPMP).

Known professionally as "Sammy," Tavarez brings more than 30 years of aviation maintenance experience, including more than 19 years specializing in diesel-powered aircraft. His technical background includes factory training from Diamond Aircraft, Austro Engine, Continental Aerospace, and Epic Aircraft, including training completed in Germany. He is regarded as one of the top diesel aircraft technicians in the United States, with a reputation that has taken him around the world to resolve complex engine issues for operators and manufacturers.

Before joining Islander Aviation, Tavarez spent more than 21 years with Premier Aircraft Service in Fort Lauderdale, where he advanced from shop mechanic to Vice President of Maintenance and Customer Service. During his tenure, he helped establish Premier Aircraft Service as an FAA Part 145 Repair Station and Garmin Service Center, while leading maintenance and customer-service operations across a wide range of aircraft platforms.

Tavarez began his aviation career in the U.S. Navy as a powerplant mechanic on the P-3 Orion.

"Sammy's expertise strengthens everything we do across piston, turboprop, and jet maintenance and avionics," said Nadia Ostrovsky, President and CEO of Islander Aviation. "He brings the kind of deep technical knowledge, practical leadership, and customer-focused experience that aircraft owners and operators need from a maintenance partner. We're proud to have him helping lead the shop."

In his new role, Tavarez will help lead Islander Aviation's maintenance operations, supporting aircraft owners, pilots, operators, and aviation professionals throughout South Florida with inspections, maintenance, repairs, and avionics services.
