MARINE PROTECTED AREA COLLABORATIVE NETWORK LAUNCHES ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER MARINE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Orange County, CA - November 7, 2024 - The Marine Protected Area Collaborative Network (MPACN) is proud to announce the launch of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Marine Scholarship Program, a new initiative under the Pathways Initiative, aimed at supporting AAPI students pursuing studies in environmental, cultural, or social sciences within California.
The AAPI Marine Scholarship Program offers a $1,250 scholarship to one eligible AAPI student currently enrolled in accredited higher education institutions in California. This initiative seeks to reduce financial barriers and encourage greater diversity and representation in fields related to ocean management and cultural studies.
This scholarship is a part of MPACN's Pathway Project, which focuses on creating inclusive opportunities and fostering leadership within underrepresented communities. By investing in AAPI students, MPACN aims to cultivate a diverse group of future leaders dedicated to environmental stewardship and cultural preservation.
"We are thrilled to offer this scholarship as part of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion," said Michelle Chuang, AAPI Coordinator at MPACN. "Supporting AAPI students in their educational pursuits not only empowers them but also enriches the fields of environmental and cultural studies with diverse perspectives."
Scholarship funds are flexible and can be used for activities such as SCUBA certifications, college coursework, attendance to conferences, etc. Applications for the AAPI Marine Scholarship Program are now open.
