Munich design firm develops exclusive yacht interior

My yacht is my style – anyone who forks out millions for the ultimate status symbol of a luxury yacht has the right to an interior that looks more than merely ‘functional’. Taking design to a new dimension is the task that the team of the Munich architect Kathrin Haak have set themselves. In collaboration with their creative crew, they develop boat interiors that set new standards for both pragmatic and aesthetic excellence. Their idea is that the design of the interior should reflect the contours of the ship itself and of its surroundings – the sea.

During their draft designs for the interior of an Italian yacht in for refitting, the designers put these innovative ideas into practice for the first time. The Munich firm of Haak interior is breaking new ground with its highly individual design concept for the interior architecture of luxury yachts. The result is a new format for luxury. The style of the whole interior architecture is characterised by curves and wave shapes. The interior aesthetic therefore reflects the basic shape of all yachts. “Conventional straight lines, corners and edges are avoided where possible. This enables the dynamic lines of the exterior surface to flow straight to the heart of the boat – a perfect symbiosis between interior and exterior”, explains Kathrin Haak. The architect is one of the few women in Germany to have made a name for herself in this male-dominated industry. She has set herself the task of setting new standards with her designs.

The authentic maritime mood is further evoked by a fascinating interplay between water and light. The breadth and movement of the ocean are represented by the open and sculpted shape of the structures. The unrivalled rippling light that shines in off the sea is channelled into the interior space and creates a very special ambience even below deck. The overall organic appearance is rounded off by the way the furniture flows seamlessly into the elements of the interior itself. “For top-class yachts, it’s all about conceits, comfort and individuality – but also about rivalry. Every boat should therefore be different from every other boat. Yacht owners are more demanding than I am, and they are fully entitled to be. Our interior design gives their craft an exclusive, made-to-measure look”, points out Haak.

HAAK interior design of excellence is located in the heart of the Bavarian State capital and operates internationally – whether in cooperation with the relevant dockyard or on direct commission from owners, and whether yacht owners want to make their pride and joy into something unique via an ambitious conversion project or whether they are contemplating having a whole new yacht built. The yacht designers accompany the process from the moment the first line is sketched until the boat is launched. Modern computer technology and maritime CAD software mean that the individual requirements for each project can be responded to very quickly and flexibly.
