Lead School JMA Pilani Celebrates World Environment Day 2026 with Tree Plantation by NCC Students to combat Climate Change

Smt. Jamuna Mishra Academy (JMA) was established in the year 2004. World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th as the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First established in 1972, it is led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and observed by millions of people across more than 150 countries.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. SDG 13 focus is Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Sustainable Development Goal SDG Report 2025 says: 2024 was Hottest Year on Record - Global Temperature reached 1.55 Degrees C above Pre Industrial Levels and Global CO2 levels have surged to over 420 ppm !!

JMA Pilani which has a rich tradition of observing various days of national and international significance celebrated World Environment Day on 05 June 2026 with the theme "Inspired by Nature - For Climate - For Our Future." According to the United Nations Environment Programme, forests absorb roughly 2.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. Since Trees act as natural carbon sinks, Principal Smt Booma Natarajan led a team of NCC Cadets of the school along with teachers and staff for a tree plantation drive. All present took a solemn oath to to curb greenhouse gas emissions which include Carbon dioxide CO2, Methane CH4, Oxides of Nitrogen NOx, F gases such as Hydrofluorocarbons - HFCs, Perfluorocarbons PFCs and Sulfur Hexafluoride SF6)
