According to the filmmaker, individuals associated with a previous production team allegedly assumed he was living in the United States illegally because of his strong Nigerian accent and threatened to contact immigration authorities unless he surrendered control of his film project.

"I was born in Nigeria, but I am a legal citizen of the United States," said Orisabiyi. "Some people made assumptions. They believed they could use fear to gain control of my movie. They were wrong."
