Software Release - TURBOdesign Suite 2026.1
Advanced Design Technology (ADT) Announces TURBOdesign Suite 2026.1: Scaling Physics-Enhanced Machine Learning for TurbomachineryAdvanced Design Technology (ADT) announces the official release of TURBOdesign Suite 2026.1, a significant update designed to scale Physics-Enhanced Machine Learning (PEML) and provide universal CAE integration for the turbomachinery industry.
This latest release builds on the foundation of 3D Inverse Design-based blade parametrization as the premier framework for machine learning optimization. By utilizing physical design parameters rather than complex CAD coordinates, users can now achieve high-accuracy surrogate models using significantly smaller datasets. Unlike traditional CAD-based methods that require massive amounts of data to "learn" physics, 3D Inverse Design approach uses aerodynamic loading parameters to inherently embed physics directly into the Machine Learning process. The number of parameters required to describe a fully 3D turbomachinery blade is therefore up to 20x less than when using traditional geometry based direct design methods. This low-dimensionally together with the fact that all designs automatically meet the correct specific work at the correct design flow rate is directly translated into faster, small data set and high accuracy physics enhanced machine learning.
In this release, we continue to extend our automatic integration with major CAE platforms such as Ansys CFX, Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Cadence Fine Turbo by providing direct integration for all turbomachinery applications to Ansys Fluent from inside TURBOdesign1. This system enables the automatic computation of training data for machine learning from all these major CAE platforms.
Key Technical Innovations in TURBOdesign Suite 2026.1:
Universal CAE Workflow: The update extends Fluent CAE integration to all applications, and exploits the flexibility of Fluent polyhedral meshing.
High-Accuracy Surrogate Models: Reactive Response Surface (RRS) enables the generation of highly accurate surrogate models with very small data sets. In this release, we provide the functionality to enable the use of RRS with any CAE platform, including specialist 'in-house' codes, open source codes and other custom simulation models such as Lattice-Boltzmann.
HPC Scalability: New native support for submitting CAE jobs to remote clusters allows for massive parallelization of optimization tasks, significantly accelerating the design cycle.
Specialized Compressor Modeling: TURBOdesign Pre now includes a specialized Inlet Guide Vane (IGV) model for centrifugal compressors, specifically targeting designers of air compressors, chillers, and heat pumps.
Enhanced Pump Design: Introducing integrated design space exploration at the meanline design stage, to rapidly explore and select pump options and sizing. Want options on blade number, outer diameter, tip width, flow rate, rotor speed or volute shape? See how any or all of these parameters (and many more) correlate and interact to put your design in exactly the right place at the very earliest stage.
The introduction of these tools streamlines the entire workflow from preliminary design to high-performance remote cluster execution, allowing engineers to produce paradigm shifting designs in much shorter timescales.
"The 2026.1 release focuses on scalability and universal integration," said Prof. Mehrdad Zangeneh. "A key highlight is the exploitation of inverse design-based blade parametrization to provide the most effective means of achieving Physics-Enhanced Machine Learning for turbomachinery".
About TURBOdesign Suite:
ADT's TURBOdesign Suite is a unique aerodynamic and hydrodynamic 3D design software package that allows users to design, analyze and optimize all types of turbomachinery, such as axial, mixed-flow or centrifugal pumps, compressors, fans, turbines and torque converters.
Using the software, designers evaluate turbomachinery package size and performance predictions; perform detailed 3D blade design with 3D inverse design capabilities; analyze flow information per component; stage performances with turbomachinery specific 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD); and automate exploration of the design space with automatic optimization capabilities.
