Arthur Deibler Calls for Stronger Community Spaces Through Local Business

Arthur Deibler of Valley View, Pennsylvania urges communities to invest in connection, health, and local engagement through everyday spaces.
Entrepreneur and business owner Arthur Deibler is speaking out about a growing issue in small towns across America: the loss of community-centered spaces where people can connect, stay active, and feel a sense of belonging.
As the Founder and CEO of Prima Pizzeria, Lucky Horse Tavern, and Bullpen Fitness & Recreation, Deibler has built his career around creating environments that bring people together. Now, he is encouraging others-both individuals and local leaders-to recognize the value of these spaces and take action in their own communities.
"People need places where they feel comfortable showing up," Deibler says. "If it doesn't bring people together, it's not something I'm interested in building."
The Growing Need for Community Spaces
Across the United States, social connections are declining. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, nearly 1 in 2 adults report experiencing loneliness, a factor linked to increased risks of heart disease, depression, and early mortality.
At the same time, fewer people are participating in local activities, gyms, and community organizations. Many small towns have seen a decline in gathering spaces, from recreation centers to locally owned businesses.
Deibler sees this trend firsthand.
"You notice when people don't have a place to go," he says. "It affects how they interact, how they stay active, and how connected they feel."
A Business Model Built on Connection
Deibler's businesses are designed with a simple goal: create spaces that people want to return to.
At Bullpen Fitness & Recreation, that means offering more than just equipment. It means building an environment where people feel welcome, regardless of experience level.
"I wanted a place where someone could walk in on day one and not feel out of place," Deibler explains.
That approach reflects a broader shift in how successful local businesses operate. According to industry research, gyms and recreational facilities that focus on community engagement see higher retention rates and stronger long-term growth than those focused only on services.
"The atmosphere matters," Deibler adds. "That's what keeps people coming back."
Why Local Action Matters
Deibler believes that rebuilding community connection doesn't require large-scale change. It starts with small, consistent actions.
"You don't need to reinvent anything," he says. "You just need to show up and be part of something."
Studies support this idea. Regular participation in community activities-whether fitness, volunteering, or social gatherings-has been shown to improve mental health, increase physical activity, and strengthen local economies.
For Deibler, the solution is practical and accessible.
"Take care of your community the same way you'd take care of your business or your team," he says. "Be present. Be involved."
Leading by Example in Valley View
Through his work in Valley View, Deibler continues to invest in the local community both professionally and personally.
In addition to running multiple businesses, he volunteers at Hebron United Methodist Church in nearby Millersburg, reinforcing his commitment to giving back.
"Being part of a community means showing up in different ways," he says. "Not just as a business owner, but as a person."
His approach reflects a leadership style rooted in consistency rather than complexity.
"Success isn't complicated," Deibler adds. "It just takes time and effort."
Call to Action: What Individuals Can Do Today
Deibler is encouraging individuals to take simple steps to strengthen their own communities:
*
Support local businesses regularly
*
Join a gym, club, or recreational group
*
Volunteer time with local organizations or churches
*
Attend community events and invite others to join
*
Create small opportunities for connection in daily life
"Start small," Deibler says. "Just find a place where you can show up consistently. That's where it begins."
