Gelsenkirchen, Germany -- American director Wayne A. Graves, a former Hollywood director now based in Germany, has directed a film for the cultural project Buehne der Vielfalt (Stage of Diversity), shot entirely in Gelsenkirchen. Drawing on his experience in international productions, he documents the premiere of the inclusive stage project in November 2025 and shows how cultural participation can be brought to life.

The film will premiere on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Flora Gelsenkirchen. The event marks the conclusion of a cultural development grant awarded by the City of Gelsenkirchen.

At its core, the project explores how inclusion can be realized on stage. Artists with and without disabilities collaborate to develop new forms of artistic expression, working together on equal footing.

The evening will also feature the presentation of the book Buehne der Vielfalt - Practical Knowledge for Inclusive Cultural Work, which brings together key insights and experiences from the project.

A highlight of the program is a performance by Inklu-Impro-Theater Gelsenkirchen, a group that has long embodied inclusion in practice. Improvisational theater creates a space where differences recede and shared creativity takes center stage--there is no "right" or "wrong," only the moment on stage.

The program also includes a recorded message from Dennis Sonne, Member of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament (Green Party) and spokesperson on inclusion and disability policy. He emphasizes that inclusion is not a marginal issue but a core element of a modern society--and that meaningful participation requires structural change.

The project has already attracted attention ahead of the event, with guests from politics, culture, and civil society expected to attend. Among them is Dr. Vanessa Marlog, cultural advisor to the office of the Federal Government Commissioner for Matters Related to Persons with Disabilities, Juergen Dusel, who will represent the Commissioner's office in Gelsenkirchen.
