MOGADISHU, Somalia - November 2, 2025 - A groundbreaking Climate Change Model United Nations (MUN) conference, successfully implemented by the United Nations Association of Somalia (UNASOMALIA), concluded on November 1, 2025, at Accord University. The event brought together students from across the nation to engage in high-level diplomatic simulations, equipping them with the skills to tackle the world's most pressing environmental challenges.

The initiative was designed to empower youth by providing hands-on experience in international diplomacy and a deeper understanding of global governance structures. The conference concluded with resounding success, having met its core objective of shaping informed and proactive future leaders.

In a special address, His Excellence Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh, the Special Presidential Envoy for Health and Nutrition, stated, "The intersection of climate change, health, and nutrition is one of the defining challenges of our time. To see our young people so actively and knowledgeably engaging with these issues at this Model UN fills me with great hope. This is exactly the kind of innovative, solution-oriented thinking we need to build a resilient future for Somalia."

The implementing organization, UNASOMALIA, underscored the critical role of such programs.

Ms. Hafsa Ali Warsame, UNASOMALIA's Youth and Student Coordinator, commented, "Empowering the youth is not an option, but a necessity for sustainable development. This Climate Model UN has provided an invaluable platform for students to voice their ideas, negotiate solutions, and practice the very diplomacy that will shape our world tomorrow. UNASOMALIA was proud to implement this initiative, which aligns perfectly with our mission for youth inclusion."

Echoing this sentiment, Ms. Salma Abdi Hassan Omar, UNASOMALIA's ISIC Sales and Outreach Officer, added, "Our goal is to bring the work of the United Nations to life for Somali youth. When we invest in education and leadership programs like this, we are investing directly in our nation's future. The passion and intellect displayed by these delegates confirm that Somalia's youth are ready to lead on the global stage."

Prof. Abdulkadir B. Mohamed, Vice Chancellor of Accord University, which hosted the event, expressed his pride in the partnership. "Today marked the successful conclusion of our climate-focused Model United Nations program, expertly implemented by UNASOMALIA. The initiative achieved its goal of cultivating future leaders by providing them with practical experience in international procedures and a robust understanding of global governance challenges. At Accord University, we are committed to being a cradle for leadership and innovation, and this collaborative event is a testament to that commitment."

The conference featured simulations of UN climate summits, where students, acting as delegates from various countries, debated and negotiated resolutions on issues such as renewable energy adoption, climate finance, and sustainable development.
