Perfect training conditions in the unique 'Europa-Sportregion' - The cradle of outstanding achievements in sports / Living in Zell and Kaprun

Holidaymakers know what they value about the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun': the two mountain towns in Pinzgau promise picturesque natural countryside and a wide range of leisure activities for a very special kind of holiday pleasure. Between Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe, our guests can discover a varied and colourful holiday world: there are sports activities for adrenalin addicts, weekly top events, and lots of fun for the little ones. 'It's a pity that we don't live here', many a visitor has been heard to sigh shortly before leaving.

This dream of a life on Lake Zell has come true for a number of top athletes. They live in the 'Europa-Sportregion' and they have come to appreciate not only the fantastic Alpine surroundings, but also the ideal training conditions. Felix Gottwald, a World Cup Champion in the Nordic combined event several times over, is one of them. He does his preparations for the season in Zell am See every year. He goes in search of the challenge on the 40 kilometres of cross-country runs around his adoptive home town and meets the very best training conditions here even in summer - on the high-altitude cross-country run on the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn.

For Doris Günther the holiday paradise has also become the centre of her life. She has lived in Zell am See from her childhood. She must have been born with a love of winter sports. But when this exceptional athlete wants to relax, she also enjoys exchanging her snowboard for a pair of water-skis and doing a few rounds on Lake Zell.

Winter sports professionals are not the only sportsmen to decide on spending their everyday lives in the 'Europa-Sportregion': Hans Peter Steinacher, two-times Olympic Champion in Tornado sailing, also comes to the Pinzgau to relax. In honour of his success he has long since been given the freedom of the town of Zell am See. Here, he likes going on a little turn on the lake of the same name.

The 'Europa-Sportregion' also offers Nico Rosberg an opportunity to relax from the stressful Formula One Circus. He may not find a race course here, but instead there is a wide range of other sporting activities to keep the new Williams-Cosworth driver fit here. He likes to spend his free time with his father Keke (a former world champion in the top league of motor sports) who has had a house in Zell am See for many years.

With 13,500 beds and two million overnight stays per year, the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See - Kaprun' is one of the most important tourism centres in Austria. In winter as in summer, guests find all kinds of leisure activities to choose from. For ski fans there are 130 kilometres of finest pistes in thick powder snow. In the summer months Zell am See and Kaprun captivate with ideal conditions for more than 40 different kinds of sports - from hiking and golfing, cycling and all water sports to extreme sports like canyoning and, last not least, summer skiing on the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn. In recent years the region has also hosted many races of the Mountain Bike World.
