Mechanically Lined Pipe (MLP) is a bi-metallic composite pipe consisting of a carbon steel outer carrier pipe for structural strength and a thin corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) liner such as stainless steel or Inconel installed inside. The liner is mechanically bonded to the host pipe-commonly by hydraulic expansion, thermal shrink-fit, or hydroforming-to achieve tight interference contact. The pipe ends are sealed via weld overlays or fittings to ensure integrity. MLPs offer effective corrosion protection at a lower cost than fully CRA pipes, making them ideal for corrosive and high-pressure applications in sectors like oil & gas, subsea flowlines, chemical processing, and hydrogen or CO2 transport. The upstream raw materials of mechanically lined pipes are usually carbon steel outer pipes and corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) lining materials, such as 316 stainless steel, 904 stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, 625 alloy, 825 alloy, etc.; the downstream covers industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, and water treatment.
