Achieving prosperity, growth, competitiveness in our future requires one powerful ingredient: diversity (M. Stuber)

Article 10 of 10 in the series "Diversity unites business and prosperity"

Everyone wants competitiveness, growth and prosperity - but only a few recognise the key to this: Using talent smartly, cultivating openness and strengthening collaboration.

Cologne, September 4, 2025 - The world has always been evolving - but the pace of change is fiercely increasing. Geopolitical upheavals, technological leaps and social polarisation are intersecting and create complexity. What appears like a threat to some also holds the greatest opportunity: diversity.

"As cave people, we are not well equipped for such complex situations. But we are capable of learning - with the right stimuli, we happily accept new things," argues Michael Stuber, culture and change researcher and consultant. "Diversity serves as the impetus we now need: it makes companies and societies more resilient, innovative and future-proof."

Growth through knowledge

Europe needs a new place in the global reality. In a digitalised knowledge economy, capital or engineering skills are no longer enough; instead creativity, intelligence and smart ideas rule. Research shows: Technological progress and the knowledge economy need diversity - a lot of diversities. When all knowhow and skills are fully utilised, our growth model will be based on value creation instead of arrogance.

Reform for prosperity

Prosperity is not created in isolation, but through participation. When women, migrants and all generations contribute productively, the cake gets bigger - and everyone benefits. International analyses prove: Countries with high levels of participation are economically more stable, socially more secure and politically more resilient.

"Diversity does not mean redistribution, it means growing the whole," explains Stuber (https://en.michael-stuber.biz). "This must be our response to polarisation as it shows common interests."

Skills shortage and ageing

Demographic trends are increasingly slowing down Europe's development: shrinking workforces, more retirees, growing shortage of skilled talent. Diversity offers the solution: migrants, older employees and women represent untapped talent pools that companies and society can tap into as of now. Intergenerational collaboration will, at the same time, create the best combination of new and proven approaches - replacing ageism with synergy.

Diversity: the solution to three key future issues

Diversity not only amplifies marginalised issues, but the solution to Europe's key future issues. It drives growth through knowledge & talent, enables reforms for greater prosperity and defuses the demographic dilemma. Those who purposefully shape diversity combine economic strength with social cohesion - and lay the foundations for a strong, secure and prosperous Europe.

Info - Box: 5 theses on diversity as a solution to our future issues

1 Diversity creates growth - through knowledge, creativity and innovation.
2 Diversity ensures prosperity - participation makes the cake bigger, for everyone.
3 Diversity solves the skills shortage - talents contribute where they are valued and included to do so.
4 Diversity overcomes ageing - generations shape the future together, not against each other.
5 Diversity connects everyone - togetherness and cooperation are unbeatable.
