ÖDP criticizes Reich's energy plans

Naturschutzpartei: Don't repeat the same mistake of Peter Altmaier, it will cost jobs and the loss of cutting-edge technology.

(Würzburg) - The _Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP - The Nature Conservation Party)_ announces massive resistance to the backward-looking policies of the new Minister for Economic Affairs, Katharina Reiche (CSU).

The Minister of Economics, of all people, is thinking about ending subsidies for private solar installations. "Is the Reiche collapse now following the well-known Altmaier collapse, which drove the German solar industry from its leading position worldwide?" asks the _ÖDP_. For the party, these considerations pose a drastic threat to the German solar industry. For the _CDU_ minister, promoting the economy only seems to be a good thing if it benefits certain industries that fit into the conservative world view. This is particularly the case with the fossil fuel industry. "Future industries do not seem to be eligible for funding for the rich," comments Prof. Dr. Herbert Einsiedler, member of the federal executive board of the _ÖDP_.

He recalls the Altmaier-Knick, named after the ex-_CDU_ minister. His policy catapulted the German solar industry from its top position worldwide - straight to the end. "A serious blow to the German economy," says Einsiedler. Altmaier had slashed subsidies for renewable energies for solar power. The result was the loss of Germany's leading position on the market. China took over. Solar expansion plummeted from 8,000 megawatts to less than 2,000. Company bankruptcies in Germany followed - "and the loss of 80,000 jobs," recalls Günther Brendle-Behnisch, head of the _ÖDP_ federal party.

"Economics Minister" Reiche is obviously emulating Altmaier: Putting the brakes on German technologies of the future and the energy transition, in favor of the fossil fuel industry of the past - no matter what that means for the economy. "Only resistance can help against this," the _ÖDP_ agrees.
