From Summertime Heat to Soulful Jazz: The Jazz Sanctuary Performs Across the Philadelphia Region this August & September

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - July 31, 2025 - "Summertime, and the livin' is easy" - especially when it's accompanied by the sounds of live jazz. For The Jazz Sanctuary, Philadelphia's most distinctive performing arts nonprofit, this summer has been a season of connection and joy, with a growing calendar of free concerts in sacred and community spaces across Greater Philadelphia.

With a full slate of summer performances underway and a milestone 15th anniversary on the horizon in 2026, The Jazz Sanctuary continues to enrich lives with the healing power of music - one free concert at a time.

"I couldn't resist using 'Summertime' as the theme for my thoughts this month - not just because of the heat, which has been more intense than usual, but because this season has shaped up beautifully for The Jazz Sanctuary," said Alan Segal, founder and Executive Director of The Jazz Sanctuary. "July brought us joyful gatherings at Main Line Unitarian and a memorable outdoor event at St. Peter's Church at 3rd and Pine. August is shaping up to be surprisingly full, with five events - three at retirement communities and two hosted by welcoming churches. And September promises even more music, with six performances on the calendar, five of them in partnership with our cherished faith-based hosts."

The August and September slate of concerts by the musicians and performers of The Jazz Sanctuary include:
• Thursday, August 7 at 7 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation (1505 Makefield Rd., Morrisville, PA 19067) - The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet - James Dell'Orefice (piano), Eddie Etkins (saxophone), Leon Jordan Sr. (drums), Alan Segal (bass), and Randy Sutin (vibes/percussion) - brings their popular "Jazz & Joe" series - featuring live music, coffee, soft drinks, and dessert treats - to Bucks County for a 90-minute concert that is free and open to all.
• Thursday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church (Routes 202 & 413, Buckingham, PA 18912) - Another "Jazz & Joe" evening featuring The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet. This two-hour concert is also free and open to all.
• Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Pennepack Baptist Church (8732 Krewstown Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19115) - "Jazz & Joe" featuring The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet, with the support of the Greater Bustleton Civic League. This 105-minute performance is free of charge and open to all.
• Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. at St. Augustine of Hippo Episcopal Church (1208 Green St., Norristown PA 19401) - An outdoor concert featuring The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet - a two-hour performance that is free and open to all.
• Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Main Line Unitarian Church (816 S. Valley Forge Rd., Devon, PA 19333) - The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet brings an evening of "Jazz & Joe" in a return to the Main Line, with a 105-minute concert which is free and open to the public.
• Thursday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes') Episcopal Church (8 Christian St., Philadelphia, PA 19147) - Enjoy an evening of "Jazz & Joe" featuring The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet. This two-hour concert is also free and open to all.

In addition to these three public events, the musicians and performers of The Jazz Sanctuary will be appearing at several private events during August and September.

"Next year will be very special for all of us - it marks the 15th anniversary of The Jazz Sanctuary and, believe it or not, my 85th birthday," Segal noted. "You can expect 2026 to be full of surprises, celebrations, and, of course, music to soothe the soul. I hope many of you will be part of our journey as we share our plans through monthly emails and special announcements.

"We're still adding dates for this year, and I'd be deeply grateful for your help. If you know of a venue that might welcome a Jazz Sanctuary event - especially churches, retirement homes, or community spaces - please reach out to me directly," said Segal. "And don't forget to check our calendar and mark the dates - we'd love to see you at one concert or many!"

The Jazz Sanctuary's continued success is made possible by more than 100 generous individual donors and corporate sponsors - including Compass Ion Advisors, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Quantum Think, Alan J. Segal LLC, and DMG Global - whose support helps keep jazz free, live, and thriving across the region.

Can't make just one? Come to more - every concert is free, live, and open to all.
