Statement on Impersonation of Filmmaker Alvin Soprano and Ongoing Instagram Hack

Alvin Soprano, the independent horror filmmaker and machinima artist known for her cult-favorite works such as Fantasmus and Bone-Skinny, is currently the target of a digital impersonation incident affecting her online presence across multiple platforms.

A fraudulent BlueSky account using the handle @alvinsoprano gained rapid attention earlier this month, accumulating over 3,000 followers within five days. The account appeared authentic to many fans, largely because it used a username that was previously linked on Soprano's official website and YouTube channel. However, Soprano had deleted her BlueSky account in April 2025, and had not returned to the platform since.

The impersonator leveraged the now-available username and existing link references to present a convincing false identity.

The fake account was reported by a fan page on BlueSky, @alvinsopranoworld, which contacted Helen Gaard, Soprano's longtime representative. Gaard confirmed in a statement that Alvin Soprano is not currently on BlueSky, and the impersonation was escalated to the platform's moderation team. Shortly afterward, the fraudulent account received an impersonation warning badge and was removed.

Concerningly, Soprano's official Instagram account was hacked on the same day the BlueSky impersonation was reported. According to her team, the email and password linked to her verified Instagram were changed without authorization, and Soprano has been locked out of the platform since.

"We believe both incidents may be connected," said Gaard. "It's likely that the individual behind the BlueSky impersonation attempted to seize control of her digital presence more broadly."

Efforts to recover the account are currently underway, and Soprano's team is working with Instagram to confirm ownership and restore access.

As of now, Alvin Soprano's only official online presence is through her website, alvinsoprano.com. She is not active on BlueSky, Twitter, Threads, or TikTok. Any accounts claiming to be her should be treated as unauthorized unless confirmed directly via her website.

Fans and press outlets are encouraged to disregard any statements or posts made by impersonator accounts and to report suspicious profiles where applicable.
