Work-ID AG: Tackling the Skills Shortage with CHF 4 Million and Skills-Manager
Thalwil, June 25, 2025 - Work-ID AG has closed a successful CHF 4 million financing round. The Thalwil-based start-up is launching Skills-Manager, a tool that shows companies which people fit both professionally and personally. Selecting by age, appearance, or gender? That was yesterday. Skills are the hard currency for smart companies.Skills-Manager reveals who is a real fit
With Skills-Manager, companies gain a tool to identify and leverage people's skills. They can see every skill currently present in their organization, anticipate tomorrow's shortages, and they know where to find missing skills. They discover hidden internal talent and what training each person needs to flourish.
Talent pool instead of the bin: stay in touch with the right people
Today, companies often delete profiles of second-best candidates, former employees, and unsolicited applicants without consideration. Valuable contacts vanish. But someone who's not the right fit today might be perfect tomorrow. Skills-Manager's talent pool feature keeps everyone who's interested and potentially suitable just one click away. Early adopters are already using Skills-Manager, offered in a freemium model with no system integration needed. "Being able to stay in touch with people who show interest in us as an employer offers us enormous opportunities. And the fact that it's so easy is all the more valuable," says Remo Noser of Noser Engineering.
Making skills visible
Founder and lead investor Cornel Müller has worked on labor market issues for over 30 years. Work-ID is a matter close to his heart. "The skills shortage isn't the main problem. People and companies simply can't find each other. The root cause is a lack of transparency," explains the serial entrepreneur. "The focus isn't on what matters: people's abilities." That insight inspired Work-ID: it makes people's skills visible. Skills take center stage. Anonymously. Age, appearance and gender, as shown on a CV, become irrelevant.
Alongside Skills-Manager, Work-ID AG is developing its offering for individuals: Work-ID, Switzerland's digital skills passport. It will be available from September 15, 2025 to everyone working or seeking work. Further details will be announced in September.
Strong research partners and investors
Work-ID AG is integrating insights from the Innosuisse flagship project "Swiss Circular Economy for Skills and Competences". Renowned partners include the University of St. Gallen, University of Zurich, EPFL, ZHAW and the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training.
Strategic investors include the Swiss Commercial Association (Kaufmännischer Verband Schweiz) and the Zurich Commercial Association (Kaufmännischer Verband Zürich), two key players in Switzerland's education and labor market. "For decades we've championed fair, progressive working conditions, equal opportunities, and employability in Switzerland," says Sascha M. Burkhalter, CEO of Kaufmännischer Verband Schweiz. "Not only do we want to actively counter the skills shortage, but we also aim to revolutionize and strengthen the Swiss labor market for the long term. Skills are the currency of tomorrow's labor market," adds Amalia Zurkirchen, Managing Director of Kaufmännischer Verband Zürich. Also among the investors is Future of Work Group AG, which includes established market players x28 AG and jobchannel ag, plus a dozen Swiss HR professionals who believe in the idea.
