Washington Attorney General Rob MeKenna congratulates

Washington’s attorney general Rob MeKenna expressed his delight to offer his congratulations to the Olympic Peninsula Travel Association.

In a letter of recommendation to the organization Mekenna went on to state that ‘It was very interesting to review OPTA’s history dating back to 1932 when a handful of business owners established the original Olympic Peninsula Resort and Hotel Assoc. Then MeKenna Wrote “Through the Years OPTA has worked tirelessly to showcase the beautiful scenery of Washington Olympic Peninsula. I have driven the Highway 101 loop many times and always enjoy the spectacular views of the historic towns, forests, beaches and glacier-covered mountains.

I commend the OPTA for it’s dedication to promoting the Olympic Peninsula and improving the regions economic standing. Again, please accept my congratulations and appreciation for your many years of service to the citizens of Washington”

OPTA is the only organization that represents all six counties on the Olympic Peninsula. For 75 years OPTA has provided travelers with valuable information about the Olympic Peninsula and is on of the organizations that has made the Olympic Peninsula a nationally recognized vacation destination.

In 1932 The Olympic Peninsula Travel Association was originally formed by a small group of prominent Olympic Peninsula business owners after the completion of HWY 101, also known as Olympic Loop. Incorporated in 1933 as the Olympic Peninsula Resort and Hotel Assoc. (OPRHA), was one of the organizations largely responsible for making the Olympic Peninsula a nationally recognized vacation destination, later in 1967 the organization changed it’s name to the Olympic Peninsula Travel Association in an attempt to strengthen it’s ability to represent a broader scope of businesses. Over the course of OPTA’s 75 year history, the OPTA has printed a total of 74 editions of their Olympic Peninsula Directory. OPTA Directories are an intricate part of its history and even today a very successful tool to help guide travels while they navigate the Olympic Peninsula. The 2008 OPTA Guide earmarks the 75th anniversary edition which will have one of their most popular Olympic Maps a part of the edition. OPTA also plans to integrate its new electronic Olympic Peninsula Interactive guide available on CD or downloadable from the web. OPTA uses tried and trued traditional marketing strategies as well as cutting edge modern technologies. Currently OPTA offers a combination of media services such as Web, Wireless and Print solutions as well as Video plus Public Relations services. OPTA Director John Snyder was quoted as saying “OPTA plans to change the face of the industry and set a new standard for attracting visitors to Washington and the Olympic Peninsula.”
