In 1932 The Olympic Peninsula Travel Association was originally formed by a small group of prominent Olympic Peninsula business owners after the completion of HWY 101, also known as Olympic Loop. Incorporated in 1933 as the Olympic Peninsula Resort and Hotel Assoc. (OPRHA), was one of the organizations largely responsible for making the Olympic Peninsula a nationally recognized vacation destination, later in 1967 the organization changed it’s name to the Olympic Peninsula Travel Association in an attempt to strengthen it’s ability to represent a broader scope of businesses. Over the course of OPTA’s 75 year history, the OPTA has printed a total of 74 editions of their Olympic Peninsula Directory. OPTA Directories are an intricate part of its history and even today a very successful tool to help guide travels while they navigate the Olympic Peninsula. The 2008 OPTA Guide earmarks the 75th anniversary edition which will have one of their most popular Olympic Maps a part of the edition. OPTA also plans to integrate its new electronic Olympic Peninsula Interactive guide available on CD or downloadable from the web. OPTA uses tried and trued traditional marketing strategies as well as cutting edge modern technologies. Currently OPTA offers a combination of media services such as Web, Wireless and Print solutions as well as Video plus Public Relations services. OPTA Executive Director John W. J. Snyder was quoted as saying “OPTA plans to change the face of the industry and set a new standard for attracting visitors to Washington and the Olympic Peninsula.”
