Kids from Chance to Advance pick out their duffel bags.

EAC Network’s foster children each received a duffel bag filled with essential items for the holidays from Love Law Firm, PLLC and Stony Brook University’s Student Nurses’ Association.

Children in foster care have few belongings and often carry what little they possess in garbage bags. EAC Network sees the heartbreaking circumstances of these children in our Chance to Advance and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) programs, which reduce risk factors for youth in foster care by providing mentors and educational activities.

Luckily, Francine E. Love of Love Law Firm and three young women from Stony Brook University refused to let this continue. Together, they collected donations and packed almost 100 duffel bags that were delivered to EAC Network’s Hauppauge location, where the children picked out their special gift.

“Children should not have to arrive at a new home with lemon-scented clothing because they had to carry their belongings in a kitchen trash bag,” said Love. “I wanted these children in foster care to know that they were worth far more than that to us. Simple items can bring dignity and having even a duffel bag to call your own can bring comfort when you are not at home.”

EAC Network (www.eac-network.org) is a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 71,000 individuals across Long Island and NYC. EAC Network’s mission is to respond to human needs with programs and services that protect children, promote healthy families and communities, help seniors, and empower individuals to take control of their lives. The organization has grown tremendously since its inception in 1969 and now offers over 70 diverse programs that address many of society’s core problems. People’s lives are being destroyed by addiction, families continue to struggle to overcome poverty, abuse, and neglect, and seniors face isolation and abandonment. EAC Network aims to build a better community one individual at a time.
