The new thought shower "Making economic areas visible" questions why there is still no central, transparent recording of business locations - and what economic opportunities are being lost as a result.
No development without visibility - a blind spot on the economic map
Many municipalities in the district have commercial sites with outstanding potential - but they are not systematically documented. Investors cannot find clear information, companies do not know where expansion opportunities exist and local authorities are barely able to market their sites.
"A business location that does not appear anywhere cannot be a beacon for the economy. If you leave location development to chance, you risk being overlooked," says the current thought shower on economic location development.
Why does the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald need a structured catalog of business locations?

3. better planning for local authorities and business development agencies
Economic diversity needs differentiated recording
The district of Vorpommern-Greifswald is not a homogeneous economic area, but a network of different economic zones, each with its own strengths and development approaches. A generic survey would not do justice to these differences.
Greifswald & Stralsund regional center: Science, technology and innovation locations with maritime industry.
Peene region & south-western district: Logistics, agriculture and regional production.
Uecker-Randow region: Industrial cluster, port economy and border region with strong economic exchange.
Island region & coastal economy: tourism, maritime industry, offshore wind power.
"If you lump all these areas together, you lose sight of the subtle differences that are crucial for investors," says Bonies.
From PDF list to interactive platform - digitalization as the key
Up to now, there have mostly been static PDF lists or scattered data sources that do not allow dynamic use. However, the economy needs a modern, digital tool that offers the following functions:
* Interactive maps with search and filter functions
* Interfaces to GIS systems, investor portals and funding programs
* Updatable data that can be maintained directly by local authorities
"Locations without visibility remain unused, while capital is tied up in better developed regions."
Capture means design - act now!
The question is not whether such a catalog makes sense - but how long you want to work without it.
Economic development must not be a product of chance.
Visibility determines growth or stagnation.
