Elections, change, resistance: Why change causes so much stress

Elections are held every four years - and with them come discussions, uncertainties and emotions. For many people, this means pure stress. Some fear change, others long for it. But why does change often trigger such strong reactions? And how can we succeed in seeing change not as a threat but as an opportunity?

Why change triggers stress

Whether political elections, professional changes or private upheavals - our brains love routines. Everything that is familiar provides security. Change, on the other hand, means uncertainty. And that is exactly what causes stress. Scientifically speaking, every major change process activates the stress system in the body. Adrenaline and cortisol are released, emotions go on a rollercoaster.

Interestingly, it doesn't matter whether the change is actually negative. Even positive changes - such as a long-awaited political turnaround or a new job - can trigger stress. Why? Because our brain wants to save energy. New situations require new ways of thinking. And that's exactly what costs energy.

Emotions control our behavior - even during elections

Elections show time and time again how strongly emotions influence our actions. Many people do not make their decisions purely rationally, but from their gut - driven by fears, hopes or insecurities. This is precisely what often makes change so challenging: it is rarely just a factual process, but an emotional one.

Those who understand how emotions and stress are connected can cope better with change. This is because resilience - the ability to deal with challenges - does not mean simply accepting change. It means actively dealing with them, recognizing them as an opportunity and asserting yourself in new situations.

Resilience as the key: why stress management determines success

Change is inevitable - the question is how we deal with it. This is exactly what the lecture "It's never too late for stress management" by speaker Daniela Landgraf is all about. Because stress is not an enemy, but a signal. It shows where we feel insecure, where our limits lie - but also where our greatest opportunities lie. In this lecture, Daniela Landgraf provides various suggestions and exercises on how stress can be transformed into serenity and confidence. The lecture motivates people to adopt new perspectives and shows how resilience is created - naturally including exercises that can be put into practice immediately.

Resilient people are not paralyzed by change, but use it as an engine for development. They know that Every choice, every change brings challenges - but also new opportunities. One of Daniela Landgraf's credos is: change the situation or your attitude to the situation - this is the first step towards greater satisfaction and freedom from stress in life.

Five tips for using change as an opportunity

* Create awareness: Change is normal and brings new opportunities is life, new doors that open. If you are aware of them and focus on the positive aspects of change, you can react to them in a targeted manner.
* Question emotions: Is the fear of change really justified? Or is it rather the fear of having to change a habit and leave the comfort zone?
* Strengthen resilience: Those who practice with small changes also remain more flexible with large ones. Every change also has positive aspects and offers opportunities. Resilience is the ability to remain strong despite many changes.
* Shift the focus: Don't focus on the problem, but on the opportunities. What opportunities arise? What is now possible that was previously hidden?
* Take action instead of complaining: Change is coming - whether we like it or not. Those who remain active feel less at the mercy of change. Acceptance is the magic word. That's why three magic questions help: Can I change it? Do I want to change it? And if so, how can I change it? If something cannot be changed, the only thing that helps is to change your attitude towards it.

Elections are just one example of how change determines our lives. The question is not whether change will come, but how we deal with it. Those who learn to use stress as a signpost can turn every change into an opportunity. Because nothing is as certain as change.

Why companies should invest in the self-esteem of their employees
Lack of self-esteem - a topic that is often hushed up in the corporate context. Managers generally never openly admit to self-doubt. In coaching contexts, it often becomes clear how many managers suffer from the so-called impostor syndrome. On the outside, they appear strong and confident. On the inside, things look very different: They often have the feeling that their performance is not enough and that what they achieve is
