JMA Pilani Rajasthan Celebrates International Child Rights Day

This day offers every proud to be Indian an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for Children.

November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention, which is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty, sets out a number of children’s rights including the right to life, to health, to education and to play, as well as the right to family life, to be protected from violence, to not be discriminated, and to have their views heard. Since 1990, Universal Children's Day also marks the anniversary of the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the declaration and the convention on children's rights.

No one has doubt that mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals as well as young people and children themselves can play an important part in making International Child Rights Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations. The world at large celebrates this day as Universal Children’s Day.

Since India celebrates November 14 every year as Children’s Day, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights - NCPCR, Government of India has given a clarion call across the nation at large to observe 20th November as International Child Rights Day.The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development launched on 26th August 2016 Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses - POCSO e-box, which is an online complaint management system for easy and direct reporting of sexual offences against children and timely action against offenders under POCSO Act, 2012.

Apart from the Childline 1098 service, the country’s first toll free tele-helpline for children in distress, children can directly report sexual abuse on www.ncpcr.gov.in by clicking on the POCSO E-BOX and selecting a picture that depicts the form of abuse. NCPCR also has a dedicated POCSO helpline number, 9868235077.
