JMA Pilani Rajasthan Celebrates National Education Day

In India today, most teachers who are to play the role of change makers in education have reduced definition of a lecture as that of a process in which the notes of the teacher go the notes of the student without going through the brains of either.

Education is basic to the creation of an atmosphere in which human beings can meet one another on a plane of friendship and equality. No one has doubt that Information is just bits of data while Knowledge is putting them together and Wisdom is transcending them. In the words of Sri Aurobindo “The chief aim of education should be to help the growing soul to draw out that in itself which is best and make it perfect for a noble use”.

Continuing the rich tradition of celebrating various days of national and international significance, Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy, JMA Pilani celebrated on 11 November 2016 National Education Day to commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a great freedom fighter, an eminent educationist and the First Education Minister of Independent India. He indeed believed that even if a single citizen of the country remained uneducated, the objective of democracy would not be attained.

The theme for 2016 is Skill Awareness and Empowerment. Around the world, the skill requirements of the job market have been altered by rapid globalization and technological change. These days, skill shortages are becoming a growing problem for employers, though the scale of that problem varies dramatically between countries. Among the countries facing the greatest skill shortages as a percentage of firms with 10 or more employees, Japan is on top with 81% followed by India with 64% .

Azad's thundering lines "Every individual has a right to an education that will enable him to develop his faculties and live a full human life. Such education is the birth right of every citizen" which are excerpts from AIR Broadcast, New Delhi, September 30, 1953 continues to reverberate in everyone's heart. To fulfill the national commitment of the Right of Children to free and compulsory education, Government of India has launched on 11-11-11 a nationwide campaign “Shiksha Ka Haq Abhiyan”.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is one of those rare personalities through whom the distinctions of the 20th century can be recognized and possibilities of the 21st century determined. He stood for a learning society through liberal, modern and universal education combining the humanism of Indian arts and the rationalism of western sciences, a society where the strong are just and the weak secure, where the youth is disciplined and the women lead a life of dignity - a non-violent, non-exploiting social and economic order. He was free India’s first Education Minister and guided the destinies of the Nation for eleven years.

At JMA Pilani, Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan in describing Maulana who was called ‘Emperor of Knowledge’ by Mahatma Gandhi pointed out that it was Azad who laid the foundations of India’s educational policy by setting up UGC and IIT etc. Yogita from Class 8 and Kushi from Class 9 also highlighted various details about Azad.
