Jenitha John Trains QA Specialists from Africa on Corporate Governance

Jenitha John, a seasoned executive with 28+ years of corporate experience with organizations like IRBA and Tongaat Hulett, recently presented a 2-day training course on Corporate Governance Awareness for Quality Assurance teams from Africa. It was organized by the Quality Assurance Forum on September 17-18, 2024.

During the program, quality assurance specialists from all over Africa convened to discuss the significant role of corporate governance in promoting organizational compliance, risk management, and sustainable performance.

Focused on professionals from fields as diverse as safety, health, environment, compliance, and risk, this free training program was meant for experienced practitioners with managerial experience of more than 8 years. During the event, participants represented a variety of private, public, and civil society organizations.

"Corporate governance is the foundation for quality initiatives to be aligned with strategic organizational goals," said Jenitha John. "Through this course, I was able to help participants guide and proactively contribute to risk mitigation, ethical compliance, and governance alignment."

The 2-day course provided African participants with an in-depth understanding of corporate governance principles and their direct impact on Quality Assurance roles. Its curriculum emphasized key areas like risk identification, stakeholder engagement, board dynamics, and ethical decision-making.

By focusing on these topics, Jenitha John and other speakers were able to equip attendees with practical strategies to align quality initiatives with governance frameworks, enhancing their contribution to organizational success.

According to Jenitha John, the key takeaways were discussions regarding the history and evolution of corporate governance, supported with case studies that highlight the influence governance structures have had on business results around the world. Her insights explored balance between strategic oversight and operational management to better understand board functionality and the relationship of these dynamics with quality standards.

Jenitha John further underlined the bridge between Quality Assurance teams and organizational governance. "Corporate governance is not just for tightening compliance and risk management. It is also the force of innovation and sustainability." she said.

Jenitha John has continuously demonstrated unmatched expertise and leadership in governance, risk, and assurance. In May 2024, she was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) - UAE, marking her many decades of service to the profession. She also became the first African woman to hold the position of Global Chairman of the IIA in Florida, USA, and work with leading organizations like IRBA and Tongaat Hulett.
