MSc Program Environmental Technology and International Affairs

The shortage of environmental resources and the dealing with pollution are challenges which the international society of the 21st century has to face. Climate change, water shortage and air pollution are only some of the problems which have to be solved. The purpose of a sustainable development can be reached only if decision makers dispose of a comprehensive education.

The cooperation between the Vienna University of Technology and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna allows this specialized education in the area of technology, the international environmental policy and the management of environmental questions.

With the scholarship in the amount of EUR 15,000 the daily newspaper “Die Presse” makes indirectly a contribution to the solution of problems relevant for environment at an international level, because the scholarship holder is offered a continuing education possibility in terms of “High flying careers for a better environment.

Individuals interested in the scholarship are kindly asked to send their application documents (CV and a motivation letter) in English to stipendium@diepresse.com by March 15, 2008 the latest. The scholarship will be awarded by a panel of experts. EUR 4,000 have to be paid on the scholarship`s own risk. There is no legal recourse; the gainer will be informed.

OVERVIEW

This postgraduate MSc Program is the result of the cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology. Over the last few years the importance of environmental issues and discussions has been increased on a local, regional and global level. This puts new and increased demands on people being confronted with the political, juridical, technical as well as economic side of environmental questions.
The Master Program offers a solid base and enables graduates to deal with challenges in this field. Environmental issues have also become increasingly important and prominent in the field of project management. Also representatives of ministries and international organizations and NGO'S have to deal more and more with environmental questions. This MSc Program is designed to prepare the graduates to deal with international issues.
The combination of studying technical as well as international environmental issues and topics will prepare graduates either for a career as managers, engineers, politicians and diplomats or for employees in top positions who need to assess rationally and who take active part in realising, implementing and managing new standards.

CONTENTS OF THE MSC PROGRAM

The most important local, regional and global environmental topics will be analyzed from a juridical, economical, political and technical point of view. The Master program is intended to
familiarize post graduates with a wide range of various topics and subjects in order to be able to
deal with all aspects of environmental issues.

The focus of technical issues is the quality management of air and water, the management of resources and energy as well as all issues regarding climate and its development.
Additional subjects deal with and summon environmental policies, economical topics, and questions as well as legal issues.

TARGET GROUP

This MSc Program is intended on one hand for engineers wanting additional knowledge and education and on the other hand for people with an academic background venturing into this field.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admitted are individuals holding a Baccalaureate's degree, a Magister's degree or an internationally recognized first degree.

Excellent English is an additional criteria for admission. Non native speakers need to provide proof of their language skills by passing language tests. The following certificates will be honoured

* First degree in English
* CPE
* IELTS-Test (Minimum 7.0) or
* TOEFL-Test (Minimum 627 Points [written], or 263 Points [computer based] or 106 Points [internet based]).
